John Mac Sells, son of the late Connie Mac Sells and Annie Pack Sells, was born on September 25, 1964, in Sikeston, Missouri, and departed this life on November 12, 2024, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 60 years.
John, a current resident of Dexter, Missouri, started his professional nursing home career working very closely with his mother, Annie Lee Sells, as an administrator at Sells Rest Home in Matthews, Missouri. After leaving Sells Rest Home, he joined the home office of SEMO Management in Sikeston, Missouri until his mother's retirement, at which point he decided to go out on his own, ultimately building a very successful corporation known as Benchmark Healthcare, with multiple facilities across Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee As CEO of Benchmark Healthcare, John was very active with the Missouri Healthcare Association (MHCA), serving on their board, as well as president for two years. Most recently, John has been spending his time helping others in the recovery community, finding great joy in witnessing the success of others and helping them reach their goals.
Those that truly knew John knew that his personality was larger than life with a smile that would light up any room. John stoically and gracefully navigated through the many life lessons he learned from, becoming the example of being the change in the face of adversity to all his friends, his family, his community and his greatest accomplishment and legacy - his three children and two grandchildren.
His family was his world and spending time with them and thoroughly enjoying all their activities was always the highlight.
He is survived by his son, Ben Sells and wife Leigh of Dexter, Missouri; by two daughters, Bailey Sells and Savannah Sells, both of Dexter, Missouri; by his brother, Ronnie Sells of Portageville, Missouri; by two grandchildren, Nora Sells and Aubrey Sells; and by his special friend, Alison Lambert Diamond of Sikeston, Missouri.
