... WIND CHILL VALUES FROM O TO -10 THIS MORNING...

... WINTER WEATHER EVENT LOOKING MORE LIKELY TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING...

THOSE HEADING OUT AND ABOUT EARLY TODAY SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR VERY COLD CONDITIONS. WIND CHILL READS WILL AVERAGE BETWEEN 0 AND 10 BELOW THROUGH 9 OR 10 AM.

LOOKING AHEAD... LOW PRESSURE WILL DEVELOP OVER THE SOUTHERN PLAINS ON TUESDAY AND THEN MOVE EAST INTO EASTERN ARKANSAS AND WESTERN TENNESSEE BY NOON WEDNESDAY. THIS WILL LIKELY LEAD TO WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION OVER THE FOUR STATE REGION LATER TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING. WITH COLD AIR IN PLACE NEAR THE SURFACE... IT IS LOOKING LIKE MANY AREAS MAY BE DEALING WITH WINTER WEATHER IMPACTS COME SUNRISE WEDNESDAY.

WARMER AIR WILL BE WORKING IN ALOFT AS THE SYSTEM MOVES TOWARD THE REGION. THIS COULD LEAD TO A MIXTURE OF SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN... MAINLY DOWN ALONG THE ARKANSAS AND TENNESSEE BORDERS. SNOW COULD TRANSITION OVER TO A MIXED BAG OF PRECIPITATION IN THE PADUCAH AND CAPE GIRARDEAU AREAS. ALL SNOW IS CURRENTLY EXPECTED OVER MUCH OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS... SOUTHWEST INDIANA AND NORTHWEST KENTUCKY... WHERE THERE IS SOME POTENTIAL FOR 2 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW BY MIDDAY WEDNESDAY.

THERE STILL REMAINS SOME UNCERTAINTY AS TO THE EXACT TRACK OF THE SYSTEM... AND HENCE EXACTLY WHERE TRANSITION LINES FROM SNOW TO SLEET... FREEZING RAIN AND POSSIBLY EVEN PLAIN RAIN WILL OCCUR. PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR FUTURE UPDATES AS THE EVENT NEARS.

Special Weather Alert - Bitter Cold Wind Chill

...DANGEROUSLY COLD WIND CHILLS THIS MORNING...

TEMPERATURES ARE NOT EXPECTED TO RISE MUCH THROUGH NOON. MOST LOCATIONS WILL REMAIN IN THE TEENS TO LOWER 20S.

THESE TEMPERATURES, COMBINED WITH BRISK NORTHWEST WINDS PRODUCING GUSTS RANGING FROM 20 TO 35 MILES AN HOUR...WILL KEEP WIND CHILLS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS THIS MORNING. A FEW LOCATIONS IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND THE PURCHASE AREA OF WEST KENTUCKY COULD SEE WIND CHILLS REACHING UP INTO THE LOWER TEENS.

IF YOU MUST TRAVEL OUTDOORS THIS MORNING...BUNDLE UP WITH LAYERS OF CLOTHING AND WEAR A HAT AND GLOVES TO PROTECT YOUR SKIN FROM THE SUB-FREEZING TEMPERATURES.

IF YOU HAVE ANIMALS THAT SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE COLD WEATHER, BRING THEM INDOORS OR PROVIDE THEM WITH ADEQUATE FOOD AND SHELTER OUTDOORS.

MANY ROADWAYS THAT HAD MELTED SNOW ON THEM HAVE REFROZEN OVERNIGHT AND WILL REMAIN SLICK AND DANGEROUS THIS MORNING. OTHER ROADS, THAT WERE WET WITH RAIN SATURDAY EVENING MAY BE COATED WITH A THIN LAYER OF ICE. REGARDLESS OF THE ROAD SURFACE YOU MUST TRAVEL ON, USE CAUTION AND ALLOW EXTRA TIME TO REACH YOUR DESTINATION TODAY.

BEST ADVICE...IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TRAVEL THIS MORNING...STAY INDOORS

Special Weather Statement for Stoddard County, Missouri

Stoddard County, Missouri - The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky has issued a Special Weather Statement for our area.

    ... TURN AROUND DONT DROWN...

ALTHOUGH THE HEAVY RAIN HAS LEFT THE QUAD STATE REGION... THE DANGERS OF FLOODING STILL REMAIN IN AND NEAR MAJOR RIVER SYSTEMS IN OUR AREA. DONT BECOME A FLOOD STATISTIC... KEEP YOU AND YOUR FAMILY FROM HARMS WAY NEAR FLOOD WATERS.

THE RECENT HEAVY RAIN... SNOW AND ICE THAT FELL ACROSS THE MIDWEST THE LAST SEVERAL DAYS IS DRAINING FROM CREEKS AND STREAMS INTO MAJOR RIVERS ACROSS OUR AREA. AS THESE LARGER RIVERS CONTINUE TO RISE... SOME TO NEAR RECORD LEVELS... THE WATER WILL BACK UP INTO SMALL RIVERS THAT FEED INTO THEM.

IF YOUR TRAVELS TAKE YOU ACROSS BRIDGES OR ROADS THAT ARE PRONE TO RIVER FLOODING... PLEASE KEEP POSTED ON ANY ROAD CLOSURES ALONG YOUR ROUTE. MAKE PLANS TO USE ALTERNATE ROUTES TO REACH YOUR DESTINATION UNTIL THE FLOOD THREAT HAS LEFT THE AREA.

PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL HIGHWAY OR ROAD DEPARTMENT TO SEE WHERE ROADS ARE CLOSED IN YOUR AREA.

DO NOT DRIVE AROUND ANY POSTED BARRICADES... YOU ARE PUTTING YOURSELF... YOUR FAMILY... AND EMERGENCY WORKERS WHO MAY HAVE TO RESCUE YOU IN GRAVE DANGER. THE BARRICADES ARE THERE FOR YOUR SAFETY... DONT IGNORE THEM.

THE BEST ADVICE IS TO TURN AROUND... DONT DROWN. WHETHER THE WATER OVER THE ROAD IS OR IS NOT MOVING... THE ROAD MAY BE WASHED OUT AND COULD ALLOW YOUR CAR TO SINK IN THE WATER.

THESE FLOOD WATERS WILL EVENTUALLY RECEDE IN EARLY JANUARY. IN THE MEANTIME... AVOID FLOODED ROADS AT ALL COSTS... YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT.
