In Memory of Helen Louise Walk

Helen Louise Walk of Puxico, Missouri daughter of the late John Newton and Ertie Mae (Triplett) Walk born on April 26, 1934 in Essex, Missouri and passed away on June 28, 2022 in Puxico, Missouri at the age of 88.

Helen lived in the Puxico area the majority of her life where she worked in the Puxico Nursing Center until her retirement. She enjoyed singing gospel songs with her sisters. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. 

She married Harold Edward Walk August 15, 1953 in Madison, Illinois and was married until his passing in March of 2021. Helen was a member of the Brown General Baptist Church.

Helen is survived by one son Dennis Pam) Walk of Granite City, Illinois; one daughter Reba Rene (Tom) Phillips of Zalma, Missouri; four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three sisters Jeanie Hamann of Puxico, Missouri; Ruby Hefner of McGee, Missouri; Alma Berrong of Silva, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers Daniel James,  Lowell, Oshall and Johnny Warren; one sister Lillian Richmond; and one great granddaughter. A host of family and friends also survive.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m At the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri with Reverend Phil Warren of St. Louis, Missouri officiating and Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Dexter, Missouri in charge of all arrangements.

Interment will be held at the New Hope Cemetery in McGee, Missouri.

In Memory of Don Cummins

DON E. CUMMINS, age 86, formerly of Bertrand, died Saturday, June 25, 2022, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Don was born September 16, 1935 in Cordell, OK to Elmer and Nettie Belle Bruner Cummins. He served in the US Marines during the Korean Conflict.

On May 18, 1956 he married Patricia J. Haws who preceded him in death on October 25, 1991.  They lived in Griffith, IN where he worked at Youngstown Steel Mill. He lived in Southeast Missouri the remaining part of his life, moving to Bertrand in 1971 where he started Cummins Construction Company. After his retirement, he dedicated his time to improving his skills as a hunter, fisherman and golfer.  

Surviving are his children, Mark (Marcia) Cummins of Punta Gorda, FL and Melanie (Bob) Wissore on Marquand; also five grandchildren, Joshua Cummins, Jason Cummins, Heather Wissore Di Stafano, Heidi Wissore Grippo, and Abigail Wissore Moyer; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Vela Faye (J.E.) Ray of Bertrand.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Preceding him in death was a sister, Hiwana Hicks: and two brothers, JT and JW Cummins.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 in the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 12:00 pm until the Funeral hour at 1:00 pm.  Jim Davis, Chaplain with Legacy Hospice will officiate.

Military Graveside Rites will be conducted at the IOOF Cemetery followed by interment under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Moyer, Kevin Ray, Ben Ray, Randy Fain, Kelly Butler and Tim Martin.

Memorial Contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.

In Memory of Stanley John Litviak

Stanley John Litviak, son of the late Anthony Litviak and Genevieve (Glinski) Litviak, was born on January 11, 1950, in Doniphan, Missouri, and departed this life on June 25, 2022, at his residence in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 72 years.

Mr. Litviak was a former farm hand for CH Parsons and a former sawmill employee. He was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, being outdoors, and visiting with people.

On August 25, 1973, in Doniphan, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Stevens. Mrs. Litviak preceded him in death on July 7, 1997.

He is survived by three nephews, Steve Litviak of Metamora, Illinois, Mike Litviak of Hillsboro, Missouri, and James Wilson of Doniphan, Missouri; by four nieces, Liz Schroeder of Grandin, Missouri, Amy Palmer of Oak Ridge, Missouri, Theresa Blackburn of Aurora, Missouri, and Patricia Limbaugh of Grandin, Missouri; by several great nieces and nephews; and by his beloved dog, Freddie.

Other than by his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Litviak; and by his sister, Gloria Wilson.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, July 1, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.

Graveside services will then be conducted on Friday, July 1, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Walker Cemetery in rural Bloomfield, Missouri.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.

In Memory of Janie Battles

Janie Battles, daughter of the late Clarence Renfro and Lula Mae White Renfro, was born on January 10, 1948, in Caraway, Arkansas, and departed this life on June 23, 2022, at her residence in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 74 years.

Mrs. Battles was the first female police officer for Blytheville, Arkansas, and the former city collector for Blytheville. She was of the Christian faith, enjoyed quilting and reading her bible.

She was united in marriage to Richard Battles. Mr. Battles preceded her in death on January 24, 1986.

She is survived by two sons, Curtis Scott Crawford and wife Christina of Dexter, Missouri and Clayton Jay Crawford of Dexter, Missouri; by her daughter, Ashley LeAnne Boham and husband Johnny of Dexter, Missouri; by two brothers, Jack Renfro of Dallas, Texas and Lamar Renfro of Steele, Missouri; by her granddaughter, Brittany Aldridge of Blytheville, Arkansas; by her grandson, Christian Crawford of Dexter, Missouri; by her great-granddaughter, Leah Grace Martinez of Blytheville, Arkansas; and by her great-grandson, Brayden Crawford of Blytheville, Arkansas.

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother and seven sisters.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date.

In Memory of Larry T. Tilley

Larry T. Tilley, son of the late John Henry Tilley and Vevie Drye Tilley was born on March 18, 1950, in Sherrill, Arkansas and departed this life on June 24, 2022, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri at the age of 72.

Mr. Tilley was a truck driver and a mechanic. He was a “gear head”, and always had his head under the hood of anything on wheels. He loved stock cars and race cars.

On January 9, 1971, he was united in marriage to Carol Hoss in Idalia, Missouri. Mrs. Tilley survives of their residence in Essex.

Other than by his wife, Carol, he is survived by two sons, Larry Tilley Jr. and wife Brittany of Essex, Missouri, and Ronnie Tilley and wife Carla of Dexter, Missouri; by two brothers, J.W. Tilley of Bloomfield, Missouri and Kenneth Tilley of Van Buren, Missouri; by two sisters, Katherine Hopkins of Bloomfield, Missouri and Gale Bess of Dexter, Missouri; by seven grandchildren, Nickol Fowler and husband Greg, Preston Tilley and wife Aleigha, Jordan Tilley, Teresa Kinders and husband Casey, Hudson Tilley, Parker Tilley and Barrett Tilley; and by two great-grandchildren, Callie Fowler and Leo Tilley.

Other then by his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David Tilley; by six brothers, Dale Tilley, William Merrick, Carl “Pete” Tilley, Charles “Tinker” Tilley, Robert Tilley and Gerald “Shorty” Tilley; and by four sisters, Maxine Robey, Floy Jean Robey, Lula Jackson and Lenora Bost.

Visitation will be conducted on Monday, June 27, 2022, from Noon until 2:00 p.m. in the Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will then be conducted on Monday, June 27, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in the Mathis Funeral Chapel with Pastor Tim Russell officiating.

Interment will follow at the New Essex Cemetery.
