Billy Gene Hughes, son of the late James Thomas Hughes and Dixie Dillon Hughes, was born on July 15, 1931 in Gray Ridge, Missouri, and departed this life on May 5, 2021 at his residence in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 89 years.
Mr. Hughes was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Korea. He was a former plant manager for Monarch Feed Mills, retiring after 32 years of service. He loved to fish and hunt.
On October 13, 1956, in Charleston, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Shirley Black. Mrs. Hughes survives of their home in Dexter.
In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by two sons, Michael “Mick” Hughes (Donna) of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and David Hughes (Amy) of Tampa, Florida; by his sister, Louise Yeakey of Saint Peters, Missouri; by his grandson Christopher Snider (Lauren); and by two great-grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Snider.
Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Hughes and Jerry Hughes; and by his sister, Donna Zorn.
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, May 7, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
