In Memory of Billy Alvin Bishop

Billy Alvin Bishop, son of the late David Bishop and Virgie Tidwell Bullington, was born on May 5, 1932 in Kennett, Missouri, and departed this life on May 2, 2021 at Southeast Health of Stoddard County, in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 88 years.

Mr. Bishop was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Coast Guard, serving in Korea and Vietnam, and he retired from the United States Coast Guard.  He was a former member of Barnesville Lodge #353 in Ellington, Missouri, a member of the Dexter VFW Post #2659, and a resident of Bernie, Missouri.

On March 19, 2013, in Franklin County, Alabama, he was united in marriage to Ella Edwards McCoy.  Mrs. Bishop survives of their home in Bernie.

In addition to his wife, Ella, he is survived by his son William Bishop of Greenville, Missouri; by his daughter, Robin Bishop of Dexter, Missouri; by two sisters, Julia Smith of St Peters, Missouri, and Martha Scott of Ellington, Missouri; by five grandchildren, Chris McCoy, Ryan Vanbuskirk, Josh Bishop, Nicole Bishop, and Shannon Bishop; by seven great-grandchildren, Erika, Kristin, CJ, Kayleigh, Noah, Connor, and Bailey; and by three great-great-grandchildren.

Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Bishop.

Mr. Bishop will be interred at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, at a later date.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.

In Memory of Carl Thomas Jackson Jr.

Carl Thomas Jackson Jr. of Calico Rock, Arkansas was born on August 15, 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Dors (Moore) Acord and Carl Thomas Jackson Sr. Carl departed this life on April 23rd, 2021 at his home, at the age of 61.

Carl is survived by two daughters, Shelly Helman (David) of Pyatt, Arkansas, Tonya Garvin (Kevin) of Anderson, Missouri; one son, Michael Qualls (Tamra) of Dexter; twelve grandchildren, Sebastion, AbbyGail, Hollie, Layne, Reagan, Joeli, Ariella, Beau, Luke, Jasmine, Jaydn, and Jenna; one sister, Tammy Hester of Bloomfield; one brother, David (Sonny) Acord of Bloomfield; his beloved dog Buddy; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He spent most of his life as a traveling auto mechanic and was of the christian faith. He loved spoiling his grandchildren with ice cream, chocolate bars, soda pop and classic rock music.

Arrangements include cremation followed by a private family burial.

In Memory of Mildred Wheetley,

Mildred Wheetley, age 82 of Puxico, Missouri passed away May 1, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. Mildred was born February 16, 1939, in Mingo, Missouri, to the late Moses Burton Elledge  and Ruth Russell Elledge. 

Mildred married Harold Loyd Wheetley on April 23, 1955 in Puxico, Missouri he preceded her in death in 1995. She was a member of  Puxico Christian Church.    

Survivors include two sons Danny (Rhonda) Wheetley and Mike (Beth) Wheetley both of Puxico, Missouri; four daughters Susan ( LeRoy) Fouts of Puxico, Missouri, Sharon Wheetley of Dudley, Missouri, Sandy (George) Roberts and Debbie (Raul) Sanchez both of Puxico, Missouri; one daughter in law Marvell Wheetley Lizenbee of Puxico, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two sisters Virginia Prince and Mary Wiseman both of Cardwell, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, friends and family also survive. She was preceded in death by son David Wheetley; brother Thomas Elledge and sister Louella Lee; one great granddaughter Paige Deaton . 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 5, 2021 at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri from 11 am to 1:00 pm. 

Funeral services  will be held May 5, 2021 at 1:00 pm in Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri with Rev. Ray Placher and Rev. Ryan McLeary officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fagan Cemetery near Puxico, Missouri. 

With Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of Jane Smiley

Jane Smiley, daughter of Norma Jean Tally Haye and the late Roy Franklin Fuwell, was born in St. Charles, Illinois on September 14, 1964 and departed this life at her residence in Bernie, Missouri on April 30, 2021 at the age of 56.

Mrs. Smiley was a Certified Med Aide and had worked at Winchester Place in Bernie, Missouri until her retirement.

She was united in marriage to Nicholas Dewayne Smiley in Powe, Missouri on April 5, 1981. Mr. Smiley survives in their home in Bernie.

Other survivors include her mother, Norma Jean Haye of Powe, Missouri; by one son, Michael Dewayne Smiley & wife Amanda of Bernie, Missouri; by two daughters, Catrina Marie Hancock & husband Jeremy of Malden, Missouri and Amber Nicole Smiley of Bernie, Missouri; by 6 brothers, David Fuwell of the state of Washington, Edwin Fuwell of Bloomfield, Missouri, Joey Loveless, Matthew Loveless and Justin Loveless all of Cherry Valley, Arkansas and Marshall Loveless of the State of Florida; by seven sisters, Debbie Morgan of Broseley, Missouri, Tammy Coburn of Bernie, Missouri, Melanie Green, Amanda Loveless, Jeannette Moss, Diane Baldridge and Joann Cox all of Cherry Valley, Arkansas; by four grandchildren, Jaymie Eggert & husband Luke, Bryson Owens & wife Macy, Kelsey Smiley and Haden Smiley; by one great grandchild, Jaylee Eggert; also by other relatives and friends.

Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri on Tuesday Morning, May 4, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M.

Funeral Services will then be conducted at 1:00 P.M. in the Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie. Rev. Royce Champion officiating.

Interment will follow in Bernie Cemetery. Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie, Missouri in charge of all arrangements.

In Memory of Gladys Marie Dodge

Gladys Marie Dodge "Nan", age 76 of Wappapello, Missouri passed away April 24, 2021 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mrs. Dodge was born June 9, 1944, near East Prairie, Missouri to the late Willie Wallace and Lillie Mae (Phillippe) Zook. Gladys worked as a machine operator for many years, she lived in O'Fallon, Missouri before moving to Wappapello, Missouri with her husband in 1980.Gladys was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Wappapello, Missouri.

Gladys married Larry Gene Dodge Sr. in East Prairie, Missouri on September 21, 1963.  Nan as so many called her loved visiting, crocheting, canning, and making chicken & noodles for her grandchildren.  

Survivors are two sons Larry (Andrea) Dodge, Jr. and Wallace (Gloria) Dodge  both of Jackson, Missouri; nine grandchildren Jonathan, Joshua, Justin, Sarah, Aaron, Levi, John, Amber, Katie; four great grandchildren Isaiah, Micaiah, Savannah, Abigail; one sister Mary Marcum of Wappapello, Missouri. Many friends and family also survive. Gladys was preceded in death by one son Mark Dodge; six brothers Robert, Earl, Jack, Wayne, Troy, and Everett Zook; two sisters Thelma Polston and Frances Smith. 

Visitation will be held at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri on Thursday April 29, 2021 from 10 am to 12 pm.

Funeral service will be at 12 pm in the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Puxico, Missouri with burial to follow at the Dogwood Cemetery in East Prairie, Missouri.

With Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
