John Rowland, son of the late John Thomas Rowland and Myrtle Rector Rowland was born on September 7, 1930 in St. Clair County, Illinois and departed this life on November 28, 2020 in the Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center in Dexter at the age of 90.
Mr. Rowland was a farmer and a resident of Dexter. He currently attended the Southwest Church of the Nazarene and formerly attended the Sweet Prospect Church in Dexter, where he served as a Deacon. John was also a founding member of the Dexter Eagles.
In March of 1949 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Carter in Piggott, Arkansas. Mrs. Rowland preceded him in death on May 16, 2014.
He is survived by five sons, Gary Rowland of Bloomfield, Ray Rowland, Allen Rowland, Gene Rowland, and Terry Rowland all of Dexter; by two daughters, Frances Williams of McGee, Missouri and Kay Asbell of Dexter; by twelve grandchildren; by twenty great-grandchildren and by eight great-grandchildren.
Other than by his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Rowland and Marvin Rowland and by two sisters, Hilda Myers and Gertie Davis.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. inside the Sweet Prospect Church in Dexter with Rev. Ray Rowland and Rev. Ron King officiating. Interment will follow at the Dexter Cemetery.
