Dexter Police Department’s August/Labor Day Crackdown DWI Enforcement Crackdown

‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ Enforcement Campaign a Success


Dexter, Missouri - Declaring Dexter's participation in the national August/Labor Day Holiday Crackdown “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” substance–impaired driving crackdown a major success, Dexter Police report that 1 substance-impaired driving arrests  and 33 citations were made during the enforcement period, which ran from August 19-September 5, 2016.  Dexter Officer's conducted 63 traffic stops during this campaign.
 
“I am proud of our Officer's for their hard work and dedication to making our region’s roadways safer,” said Lieutenant Benton.  “Substance-impaired driving is more than a reckless choice by a few individuals,” he said. “Each year, substance-impaired driving costs the lives of thousands on America’s highways.

Preliminary data shows in 2015, there were 196 fatalities and 663 serious injuries that involved at least one substance-impaired driver. That equates to one substance-impaired driving fatality every 1-3/4 days.

During the holiday August 21 – September 7, 2015, five (5) people were killed and fifty-three (53) seriously injured which involved at least one substance-impaired driver.  Dexter Police Department joined forces with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and nearly 10,000 law enforcement agencies across the country in this year’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
