Dexter Police Department’s August/Labor Day Crackdown DWI Enforcement Crackdown
‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ Enforcement Campaign a Success
Dexter, Missouri - Declaring Dexter's participation in the national August/Labor Day Holiday Crackdown “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” substance–impaired driving crackdown a major success, Dexter Police report that 1 substance-impaired driving arrests and 33 citations were made during the enforcement period, which ran from August 19-September 5, 2016. Dexter Officer's conducted 63 traffic stops during this campaign.
“I am proud of our Officer's for their hard work and dedication to making our region’s roadways safer,” said Lieutenant Benton. “Substance-impaired driving is more than a reckless choice by a few individuals,” he said. “Each year, substance-impaired driving costs the lives of thousands on America’s highways.
Preliminary data shows in 2015, there were 196 fatalities and 663 serious injuries that involved at least one substance-impaired driver. That equates to one substance-impaired driving fatality every 1-3/4 days.
During the holiday August 21 – September 7, 2015, five (5) people were killed and fifty-three (53) seriously injured which involved at least one substance-impaired driver. Dexter Police Department joined forces with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and nearly 10,000 law enforcement agencies across the country in this year’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

Trooper Ricky L. Vannada has been promoted to corporal and designated the assistant zone commander of Zone 2, Butler and Ripley counties. Vannada was appointed to the Patrol on October 17, 2004. After graduating from the Patrol Academy, he was assigned to Troop E, Zone 10, Dunklin County.
Trooper Jonathan T. Wilson has been promoted to corporal and will remain in his current assignment as a marine operations trooper. Wilson was appointed to the Missouri State Water Patrol on December 2, 2007, and joined the Missouri State Highway Patrol on January 1, 2011, with the merger of the two agencies. Wilson began his career in Troop D, Dallas County. On January 1, 2011, Wilson transferred to Troop E, Butler and Ripley counties. He and his wife Hayley (Buffington) have two children.
The only 100 percent survivable crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Dexter, Missouri - The Bootheel Solid Waste Management District will be sponsoring an ewaste Recycling Day on Tuesday, September 6th at the bootheel Regional Planning and Economic Development Commission offices on E. North Main Street.
The Drop-Off Location is 105 E. North Main (located in the old Armory Building)
The management district obtained grand funding from the Missouri department of Natural Resources to help cover the cost for residents in disposing of these e-waste items. As a result, no fees will be charged.
The Bootheel Solid Waste Management District has sponsored the recycling event in the past with great success. It can be difficult to dispose of many electrical items such as computers and televisions and these events provide an opportunity for residents to dispose of unwanted electrical items.
The following items will be accepted:
1. Computer equipment, servers, desktop PCs, laptops, Netbooks, Apple computers, tablets, keyboards, speakers, modems, routers, cables, software and all accessories.
2. Video and photography, Blu Ray players, HD DVD, DVD, Laserdisc, VHS, Betamax, DVRs, cable and satellite receivers and digital and film cameras.
3. Audio-Receivers, amplifiers, speakers, MP3 players, CD players, cassette decks, turntables, 8-Track equipment, boom boxes, microphones, mixers, rack equipment and DAW.
4. Appliances - washers, dryers, microwaves, stoves, refrigerators, air conditioners and water heaters.
5. Office - Printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and ink/toner cartridges.
6. Miscellaneous - lead batteries for cars, tractors, boats, rechargeable batteries, battery chargers, and wires.

The donated coats will provide a tremendous benefit to area kids in the colder months just around the corner. Any help that the community can provide for this cause will be extremely beneficial. The Salvation Army traditionally hosts coat drives in November and Saint Francis’ collection will go toward that drive.
“The Salvation Army does so much good in communities worldwide,” says Debbie Gibson, manager of Saint Francis’ Volunteer Services and Pastoral Care. “We are honored to do our part to help, and invite everyone in and around Cape Girardeau to do the same!”
Eight donation barrels are located on the Medical Center campus: outside the Chapel of Saint Francis, in Pastoral Care and at Entrances 1, 2, 4, 6, 7 and 8. Donation barrels are also at various Saint Francis outreach clinics: Charleston Family Care, Farmington Physician Associates, Jackson Family Care, Kneibert Clinic in Poplar Bluff, Piedmont Physician Associates in Piedmont, Physicians Park Primary Care, Poplar Bluff Neurology Specialists, Sikeston Radiation Oncology and the Saint Francis Health Center in Dexter. Coats collected outside Cape Girardeau will go to local charities in the respective communities.
