Marvin Edward Smith, son of the late John Henry Smith and Elizabeth Pearl May Smith, was born on August 16, 1927 in Rector, Arkansas and departed this life on April 4, 2016 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 88.

Mr. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter. He retired from General Motors after thirty-nine years where he did small tool repair.  After retiring, he then operated a cabinet shop.  He was a licensed pilot, a home builder and a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II.

On September 3, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marilynn Smith in Piggott, Arkansas. Mrs. Smith survives of their home in Dexter.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth Wayne Smith of Jacksonville, North Carolina and Steven Allen Smith of Norman, Oklahoma; by one daughter, Kathleen Smith Ferguson of Fair Play, South Carolina; by two sisters, Eva Barrow of Granite City, Illinois and LaWanda Allie of Michigan City, Indiana; and by ten grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Kevin Smith, Jennifer Gomes, Danny Smith, Jesse Smith, Erin Welch, Meghan Savant, Kaitlin Sinclair, Jennifer McMillian and Robert Wheeler; and by seventeen great-grandchildren

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Michael Ray Smith; by one grandchild, Keith Edward Smith; by three brothers, Herbert Smith, George Smith and Dwight Smith; and by five sisters, Cletus Bardsley, Myrtle Busey, Estella Norman, Gladys Gowan and Monetta Parks.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 P.M.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. George Nite officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
