Lion’s Club around the world are nearly 1.4 million strong in 193 countries. Lions tackle tough problems like blindness, drug abuse prevention and diabetes awareness. They also provide immediate and sustained relief in time of disaster and offer long-term assistance to those in need. Lions collect and recycle eyeglasses for distribution in developing countries and treat millions of people to prevent river blindness.
For 85 years Lions have improved the quality of life in local communities by building parks, supporting hospitals and establishing water treatment programs.
Persons who are blind and visually impaired know Lions for their service. During a Lions International convention, Helen Keller, a woman who had been blind and deaf since childhood, challenged Lions to become “knights of the blind in this crusade against darkness”.
Today, Lions clubs around the world are involved in many sight-related areas in order to help prevent blindness.
