Lowan Edward Griffin
Lowan Edward Griffin, son of the late William Fonzie and Mabel Funkhouser Griffin, was born in Dudley, Missouri on September 16, 1932, and passed away at the Washington County Hospital in Potosi, Missouri on March 8, 2015, at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 20 days.

He had lived in Dudley until moving to Potosi in 1974. He had worked as an iron worker and was a member of the Iron Workers Local Union in St. Louis. He was a member of the Potosi Church of God.

On June 9, 1956, he was married to Joyce Adele Ezell in Bloomfield, Missouri.  She preceded him in death on August 8, 2003.

Surviving are three sons, Roland Griffin, William Griffin and Mark Griffin all of Potosi, Missouri; one daughter, Tootie Sifford of Dexter, Missouri; six grandchildren; and one sister, Janease Harms of Wynona, Missouri. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Gary, Friz, Kenny and Rudy Griffin and one sister, Jo Ann Kestner.

Friends may call on Friday, March 13, 2015, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 11:00 am at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter in Dexter with Rev. Kent Miller of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, officiating.

Interment will be in the Armstead Dowdy Cemetery near Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri, in charge of arrangements.

Easter Lillie LaRue
Easter Lillie LaRue, daughter of the late J. A. and Lillie James LaRue, was born in LaValle, Missouri on April 12, 1925, and passed away at the Gassville Therapy & Living Center in Gassville, Arkansas on March 10, 2015, at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 26 days.

She had lived in Dexter, Missouri most of her life and moved to Mt. Home, Arkansas three years ago. She was a member of the Gospel Assembly.

On August 1, 1942, she was married to Tillman Adkins in Bloomfield, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1973. She then married Charlie LaRue on September 6, 1973. He preceded her in death in 1979.

Surviving are four sons, Tillman D. Adkins of Mt. Home, Arkansas, Arthur D. Adkins of Montrose, Michigan, Kerry D. Adkins of Mt. Home, Arkansas, Kenneth D. Adkins of Dexter, Missouri; two daughters, Vannessa K. Martin of Kokomo, Indiana, Valeria K. Jurczak of Montrose, Michigan; one brother, Lawrence A. Putney of Flint, Michigan; two sisters, Ora Putney of Dexter, Missouri and Aline Baker of near Flint, Michigan. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Friends may call on Friday, March 13, 2015, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015, at 12:00 pm at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Interment will be in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico, Missouri in charge of arrangements.

Robert Tracy Bennett, son of Nora Yvonne Jackson Bennett and the late J. C. Bennett, was born in Dexter, Missouri on June 6, 1961, and passed away at the Southeast Healthcare Center of Stoddard County in Dexter, Missouri on March 5, 2015, at the age of 53 years, 8 months and 27 days.

He had lived in Dexter most of his life and was a Jehovah Witness. He was a self-employed musician.

He was married to Maranda Fay Stanfield.

Surviving are his wife, Maranda Bennett of Dexter; one son, Jon Kyle Bennett of Farmington, Missouri; two daughters, Jordan Makayla Mattingley and Tanner Elizabeth Stanfield both of Gideon, Missouri; one brother, Jay Bennett of Dexter, Missouri; and one sister, Jana Bennett of Dexter, Missouri. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Charles Bennett.

Friends may call on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, after 9:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter in Dexter with Harold Morrow, minister of Jehovah's Wittnesses of Dexter, Missouri, officiating.

Kenneth Marion Sandusky

Kenneth Marion Sandusky, son of the late Grady Sandusky and Ruby Shelby Sandusky, was born on December 25, 1936 in Stoddard County, Missouri and departed this life at Southeast Health Center of Stoddard County in Dexter on March 9, 2015 at the age of 78.

Mr. Sandusky was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Dexter.  He taught 8th Grade Earth Science and Special Education for the Bernie School District and was a resident of Dexter. 

On August 4, 1956 he was united in marriage to Nina Isabelle Allen in Hernando, Mississippi.  Mrs. Sandusky preceded him in death on December 15, 2012.

He is survived by one son, Kenneth Sandusky of Little Rock, Arkansas; by one daughter Sandra Jackson (Dennis) of Bernie; by two sisters, Shirley McRoy of Dexter and Marcella Robertson of Malden; and by one grandson, Darren Jackson of Dexter.

In addition to his wife and parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. 

Graveside services will be conducted at the Sycamore Cemetery in rural Dexter on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Lonny Mittag officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Sycamore Cemetery.

James Ralph Sommers

James Ralph “Jay” Sommers, son of the late James Russell Sommers and Vesta Jane Macom Sommers, was born on September 22, 1937 in Jerusalem, Arkansas and departed this life on March 7, 2015 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 77.

Mr. Sommers had worked as a farmer and was a resident of Puxico.

On July 4, 1959, he was united in marriage to Nelladene Pinkard.  Mrs. Sommers preceded him in death on October 9, 1978.

He is survived by two daughters, Jane “Janie” Sommers of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Janice Sommers of Williamsville, Missouri; by one brother, Francis Sommers of Puxico, Missouri; by one sister, Louise Chappel of Poplar Bluff; by three grandchildren, James Patrick McCarty of Jefferson City, Missouri, Daniel Francis McCarty of Warrensburg, Missouri and Emily Eileen McCarty of Williamsville, Missouri; and by one great-grandson, James Patrick “Jay” McCarty, Jr. of Jefferson City, Missouri.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Alfred Sommers and by one sister, Veldena Bradish.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:45 P.M. 

A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at Hagy Cemetery in Dexter.  Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery.
