Paducah, Kentucky - The National Weather Service has issued a PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT

...JULY 2014 BECOMES A TOP TEN YEAR FOR COOL TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE REGION...

IF YOU WERE EXPECTING TEMPERATURE ROUTINELY HANGING AROUND 90 DEGREES FOR HIGHS AND NEAR 70 DEGREES FOR LOWS IN JULY, THEN YOU RECEIVED A "COOL" SURPRISE THIS YEAR.

JULY 2014 TURNED OUT TO BE ONE OF THE TOP TEN COOLEST FOR THE FOLLOWING LOCATION(S), SINCE RECORDS HAVE BEEN KEPT AT THESE OBSERVATION SITES.

IN CAPE GIRARDEAU, THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE WAS 73.6 DEGREES AND MAKES IT THE COLDEST JULY ON RECORD SINCE 1961. THE NEXT COLDEST YEAR, WITH AN AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE OF 74.6 DEGREES, WHICH
OCCURRED IN 2009.

CAPE GIRARDEAU MISSOURI ALSO TIED ITS DAILY RECORD LOW OF 56 DEGREES ON THE 29TH OF JULY. THE RECORD ON THAT DATE WAS LAST SET BACK IN 1994.

IN EVANSVILLE, INDIANA, THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE FOR JULY WAS 74.3 DEGREES, MAKING IT THE 5TH COLDEST JULY ON RECORD SINCE 1896. THE COLDEST JULY SO FAR WAS IN THE YEAR 1947, WITH AN AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE OF 72.8 DEGREES.

ON JULY 15TH, EVANSVILLE REPORTED A RECORD COOL HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 74 DEGREES. THIS SURPASSED AN 117 YEAR OLD RECORD OF 75 DEGREES, THAT OCCURRED IN THE YEAR 1897,

PADUCAH KENTUCKY, WITH AN AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE OF 75.0 DEGREES, ACTUALLY TIED WITH THE YEAR 1950, AS THE 3RD COLDEST JULY SINCE WEATHER RECORDS BEGAN IN 1937.

A NEW DAILY RECORD LOW WAS SET IN PADUCAH WITH ON JULY 17TH WITH A TEMPERATURE OF 56 DEGREES. THE TEMPERATURE OF 56 DEGREES ALSO TIED A RECORD LOW FOR JULY 29TH, LAST SET IN 1994.

PADUCAH KENTUCKY DROPPED BELOW 60 DEGREES 11 TIMES IN JULY SETTING A RECORD FOR MOST DAYS BELOW 60 DEGREES SURPASSING THE OLD RECORD OF 8 DAYS IN JULY 1947.
