Bloomfield, Missouri – The Bernie Mules have something to be very proud of and they gained more than a second place win on Friday night! They graduate seven seniors – B.J. Jennings, Troy Kirkpatrick, Jr. R. Pregel, Jake Wagner, Bubby Schwent, Justin Stanfield, and Joey Walker and over the past four years have earned many titles, but most of all they learned about themselves and how to work together as a team.
They had one goal and that was to win each game. You don't have to love sports to realize that on or off the court, these young boys grew up to be impressive young men. They have so many good memories to last them a lifetime!
They may not have won that district title, but they won the hearts of their fans. They also earned first place wins at the Bernie Invitation Tournament, and the Stoddard County Athletic Association Tournament. They placed second in the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament and the Class 2, District 1 Tournament this season. Pretty impressive!
The Bernie Mules finished their season with a record of 23 – 6.
"We had a great season," according to head coach Brad Botsch . "Our kids have nothing to be ashamed of. We battled through a lot of adversity injury-wise and never really got to put a healthy team on the floor all year. I'd love to have seen what we could've done 100 % healthy, but injuries are part of the game and you just have to battle through them and keep competing. We've got a bunch of good kids whose hearts are broken, and we are going to miss those seven seniors. Even though we never like to lose, I'm proud of the season we had and the young men they've become."
South Pemiscot improved their record to 19-6 with the victory over the Mules 63 – 36.
"Coach Bidewell does a great job over there and he's probably going to win a lot of these," Botsch continued. "It was an outstanding performance by South Pemiscot and we wish them the best of luck in the next round."
The Mules had an outstanding performance by senior, B.J. Jennings, who hit a team high 15 points including one trey. He was the only Mule in double figures.
Matt Vernon and Jake Wagner each had one 3-pointer.

MoNASP is an affiliate of the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) and promotes education, self-esteem, and physical activity for students in grades 4-12 through participation in the sport of archery. MoNASP is coordinated through the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and the Conservation Federation of Missouri (CFM) in partnership with more than 330 participating schools and numerous supporting organizations throughout the state. More than 67,000 Missouri students participate in the program.
More than 4,100 student archers around the state have competed so far this winter in local tournaments with the hope of qualifying for one of the 1,300 spots at the state tournament. Student archers who shoot qualifying scores at the state tournament will earn spots at the NASP national tournament this spring in Louisville, Ky.
“Missouri is a great place to hunt and fish, and now it’s a great place for shooting sports too,” said MDC MoNASP Coordinator Eric Edwards. “MoNASP not only teaches students the lifetime recreational skills that come from archery, but it also helps them excel in the classroom.”

Cape Girardeau, Missouri – The Dexter boys basketball team ended their season with a loss to the Kennett Indians in the opening round of the Class 4, District 1 basketball tournament on Saturday.
Dexter held Kennett to a 19-19 tie at the end of the first quarter, but the Indians’ defense came alive and held the Bearcats to only five points in the second quarter. Halftime score Dexter 24 – Kennett 32.
Peyton Pollock scored the team-high 12 points for Dexter. He hit one trey.
D.J. Dowdy tallied 11 points including one 3-pointer.
Myles Urhahn and Austin Chesser each sunk a trey.

Dexter finishes their season with a 6 – 16 record. Three DHS players will graduate in May: D.J. Dowdy, Myles Urhahn, and Cody Neldon. We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors and it’s been a pleasure to watch them play ball.

Dexter, Missouri – It was an emotional night for the Dexter Bearcats. Four Lady ‘Cats were on the floor for their very last home show.
Senior night is always special, but this one seemed a little more special. Hannah Noe, Paige Patterson, Erika Cobb and Alison Jarrell have been playing ball since third grade. They have earned District titles each of the last three years and are gunning for another title next week. They completed a perfect year at the Bearcat Event Center winning all of their home games.
After a heartfelt presentation, the Lady 'Cats got down to business as Hanna Noe scored the first points of the game.
Hannah Noe tallied a game-high 22 points for the Bearcats including one 3-pointer. Paige Patterson scored 16 points. Erika Cobb added 15 points along with her trey. Alison Jarrell hit two 3-pointers.
The Lady ‘Cats completed their regular season with an impressive record of 22 – 3.
#1 seeded Dexter will play Monday at 6 p.m. against either #4 Kennett or #5 cape Central in the semifinal game.

Bloomfield, Missouri – The Bernie Mules defeated the Portageville Bulldogs and are just one game away of earning another District Title.
“This was a tough game for us tonight,” commented Bernie’s head coach Brad Botsch. “Portageville competed extremely hard and gave us all we wanted. This time of the year, we just want to survive and advance and play as well as possible. We did enough to get to play in the district championship and we’re excited about that.”
Jake Wagner had a game-high 18 points hitting three 3-pointers. B.J. Jennings tallied 11 points for the Mules including two treys. Brandon Sparks added a trey and Troy Kirkpatrick added two to help the Mules win the semi-final game.
A.V. Banks hit16 points for the Bulldogs including his two treys. Chris Garmon added 10 points.
For a second straight season the Bernie Mules will compete against the South Pemiscot Bulldogs in the Class 2, District 1 Championship game on Friday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
"South Pemiscot is an extremely well-coached and athletic team,” Botsch stated. “We will have to play very well to come out on top Friday night. Our kids will really have to rise up and leave it on the floor if we want to win it.”
