Bill Rhodes

Bill Rhodes, son of Shelton and Una Mae Burchfield Rhodes, was born in Kewanee, Missouri on October 25, 1938 and died at home, in Dexter, Missouri, on January 24, 2014.  He was 75 years of age.

He served in the Navy from 1956 through 1960 and met his wife, Judy Wood Rhodes, while stationed at Long Beach, California.  They married on August 22, 1960 and were married 53 years at the time of Bill’s death. 

He was an avid golfer, a devoted member of the Lion’s Club and enjoyed spending winter months on the beach on South Padre Island.  Bill retired from the Farm Bureau Insurance Company after being employed for over thirty years.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter where he had served as a youth leader, a deacon and an usher.

Bill is survived by his wife, Judy, his sister, Ann Rhodes Sweat of San Diego, California, his daughter, Carrie Rhodes Botts, of Lebanon, Missouri, his son, Jim Rhodes and daughter-in-law, Cindy Hufford Rhodes, of Bloomfield, Missouri, the “lights of his life,” his granddaughter, Cory Botts, and grandson, Luke Rhodes, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  He also leaves behind many close and special friends, especially his golfing buddies, the Killer B’s.

Visitation will be at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri on Monday, January 27th from 10:00-12:00 with services to follow at 12:00. 

Interment will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield following the funeral service.

All arrangements will be under the direction of the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to 18 Fore Life and/or the Wounded Warrior Project.
