Halen S. Smith
Halen S. Smith, son of the late John Tyler and Anna Mayberry Smith, was born in Leora, Missouri on November 3, 1918, and passed away at the Puxico Nursing Center in Puxico, Missouri on February 3, 2014, at the age of 95 years and 3 months.

He had lived in the Puxico area all of his life. He had worked in maintenance for the Missouri Dept. of Transportation. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Puxico, the Puxico V.F.W. Post 7288 and was a veteran of the U. S. Army.

On September 14, 1941, he was married to Rilla Lee Hicks in Bloomfield. She preceded him in death on July 13, 2010.

Surviving are two sons and wives, Sanford & Delitha Smith of Puxico, Roger & Brenda Smith of Cape Girardeau; one daughter and husband, Marilyn & Sonny Newsom of Puxico; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and one brother, John C. Smith of Garden City, Michigan. Other family and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held on Thursday February 6, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Friday February 7, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Puxico, Missouri with Rev. Dennis Doublin and Travis Reems both of Puxico, Missouri officiating.

Interment will follow in the Puxico Cemetery in Puxico, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.

Paula Jean Simms Beck

Paula Jean Simms Beck, daughter of the late Gary Simms Jr. and Joyce Marie Gaskins Simms was born in Caruthersville, Missouri on February 23, 1963 and departed this life in Crowley Ridge Nursing Center in Dexter, Missouri on February 2, 2014 at the age of 50.

Mrs. Simms was a former MedTech and was a homemaker.

She was united in marriage to Timothy Beck in 1994.  He survives his wife.

Other survivors include two sons, Nathan Ellis of Bernie, Missouri and Joshua Ellis of Broseley, Missouri; by one daughter, Brandi Ellis of Dexter, Missouri; by two sisters, Sandy Brashear of Sikeston, Missouri and Shelly Caldwell of Bernie, Missouri; by three grandchildren; also by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death other than by her parents, by one sister, Penny Blackshear.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M.  

Funeral services will then be conducted at 1:00 P.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ivan Mekan officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery. 

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Wilma "Pinkie" A. McGuire, daughter of the late Parvin, Sr. and Cozette Hester Williamson, was born in Essex, Missouri on October 21, 1949, and passed away at the Southeast Health Center of Stoddard County in Dexter, Missouri on January 27, 2014, at the age of 64 years, 3 months and 6 days.

She had lived in Essex, Missouri all her life. She had worked for Elders Manufacturing for 29 years and had served as President of the Union for many years. She also worked at the Essex One Stop until she retired.
Surviving are one daughter, Kelly Smith of Dexter, Missouri; one son, Jonathan McGuire of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; four grandchildren and spouse, Sha & Mickala Waller of Essex, Bradley Pope of Puxico, Matthew McGuire of Essex, Ryland McGuire of Delta; two great grandchildren, Brody Lee and Gunner Ray Waller both of Essex; one brother and wife, Parvin, Jr. and Carolyn Williamson of Dexter, Missouri. Other relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Joe and Tim Williamson.

Friends may visit on Friday, January 31, 2014, after 10:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 31, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. James Malloy of Essex, Missouri officiating.

Interment with be in the Triplett Cemetery near Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

David S. Wheeler

David S. Wheeler, son of the late Sherman Edward Wheeler and Reva Jones Wheeler was born on July 10, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri and departed this life at his residence in Dexter, Missouri on January 27, 2014 at the age of 82 years.

Mr. Wheeler was the owner and operator of Wheeler Refrigeration, Veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War, 50 year member of the Belleview, Illinois Elks Lodge, and a recent member of the Dexter Elks Lodge.

On July 22, 1950 he was united in marriage to Mildred Medler in Piggott, Arkansas.  Mrs. Wheeler survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Mark Douglas Wheeler of Dexter and Scott Vincent Wheeler of Magnolia, Texas; by four grandchildren, Amy Long of Santa Barbara, California, Michael Chase Wheeler of Muldrow, Oklahoma, Nick Wheeler of College Station, Texas, and Misha Cheema of Tucson, Arizona; also by six great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David Michael Wheeler; by two brothers, Dale Wheeler and Everett Wheeler.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 11:00 until 12:00 noon Saturday February 1, 2014.

Funeral services will then be conducted on Saturday February 1, 2014 at 12:00 noon in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with full Military Services.

Lillian Dildine Kimes, daughter of the late Sam B., Sr. and Dillie Mae Fuwell Dildine, was born in Wynne, Arkansas on March 20, 1929, and passed away at the Woodland Hills Nursing Center in Marble Hill, Missouri on January 26, 2014, at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 6 days.

She had spent 22 years in Hidalgo County, Texas where she owned and operated The Bootery western store for twenty years. She also worked for Sheppard's Engineering in St. Louis and had been manager of The Cloverleaf Restaurant in Greenville. She returned to Southeast Missouri in 1992 and was living in Marble Hill. She attended the Lakeland Assembly of God Church near Wappapello.

On July 13, 1945, she was married to Robert Dildine in Blytheville, Arkansas. He preceded her in death in 1980. She later married Bill Kimes, he preceded her in death in 1990.

Surviving are three sons, Larry Dildine of St. Louis, Ronald Dildine of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Andy Dildine of Hiram; three daughters, Diana Cook of Greenville, Carla Groves of Wappapello, Donna Greer of Marble Hill; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Dildine of Clarkton, Melvin Dildine of Patterson; three sisters, Ella M. Jost of Marble Hill, Linda Thurston of McAllen, Texas, and Carolyn Dildine of Jackson, Georgia. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one son, Gary W. Dildine; three brothers, Sam Jr., Grover and Darlis; and two sisters, Connie Rosenberg and Delphine Goforth.

Friends may visit on Saturday, February 1, 2014, after 10:00 a.m. at the Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Clubb, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Clubb, Missouri with Pastor Arvin Haynes of Wappapello, Missouri officiating.

Interment with be in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery near Hiram, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
