Ruth N. Wood, daughter of the late Henry Hickerson and Jennie Caraway Hickerson was born on December 24, 1925 at Wardell and departed this life in the Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center at Dexter on February 24, 2012 at the age of 86.
Mrs. Wood was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter, a former public school educator, working in various school districts, the former assistant Librarian at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar and a resident of Dexter.
She was united in marriage to Dr. Wayne Wood on January 13, 1945 in Blytheville, Arkansas. Dr. Wood survives of the home in Dexter.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Tim Chamberlain of Dexter; by two grandchildren and their spouses, Wesley and Allison Tolbert of Houston, Texas and Emily and Dr. Brad Crow of Danville, California; by two step grandchildren, Ashley Thomas of Tallahassee, Florida and Beau Chamberlain of Owensboro, Kentucky; by two great-grandchildren, Sarah Tolbert and Lydia Tolbert: by one step-great-grandchild, Brayden Thomas; by a niece who was raised in the home as a daughter, Sue Foster and husband Ernest of Mountain View.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Rev. Duke Tolbert, by three brothers, Rudolph Hickerson, Theodore Hickerson and Dallas Hickerson; and by two sisters, Opal Willoughby and Gladys Ephlin.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m., Thursday, March 1, 2012 at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will then be conducted at 11 a.m., in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Don Kennedy officiating.
Interment will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
