Description

...Wintry conditions expected today...

Strong northwest winds will gust 20 to 35 mph today. With temperatures stuck in the middle 30s through the day, wind chills will generally be in the teens and 20s. If the blustery conditions were not enough, there will be a mixture of light rain and light snow mainly east of the Mississippi River through at least the morning hours. Some minor snow accumulations will be possible on grassy areas.

Remember to wear layered clothing, a hat, and gloves or mittens, if you must go outside today.

...Gusty Winds Through This Afternoon...

Winds from the south to southwest will strengthen this morning through the afternoon across the Missouri Bootheel region, far southern and southeastern Illinois, southwestern Indiana, and western Kentucky. Wind gusts of 30 to 35 mph are expected at times.

Over the southern Pennyrile Region of western Kentucky, gusts up to 40 mph cannot be ruled out this afternoon. Winds will relax by early this evening.

Drivers on east-west roads should be alert for cross winds. Additionally, unsecured holiday decorations may be blown around.

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO 6 PM CST THIS EVENING FOR GUSTY WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY FOR SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND SOUTHERN ILLINOIS...

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from 9 AM this morning to 6 PM CST this evening.

AFFECTED AREA...In Illinois...Fire weather zones 075, 076, 077, 078, 080, 081, 082, 083, 084, 085, 086, 087, 088, 089, 090, 091, 092, 093, and 094.In Missouri...Fire weather zones 076, 086, 087, 098, 100, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112, and 114.

TIMING...From late morning through sunset.

WIND...South, southwest 15 to 30 mph, with gusts 30 to 40 mph.

RELATIVE HUMIDITY...20 to 32 percent.

10 HOUR FUELS...5 to 8 percent.

IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Burning is not recommended.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Stoddard County, MO - The National Weather Service has issued a Significant Weather Advisory for Stoddard County until 10:00 p.m. TONIGHT.

..SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SOUTHWESTERN BOLLINGER...EASTERN WAYNE AND CENTRAL STODDARD COUNTIES UNTIL 1000 PM CDT...

At 907 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Bloomfield, moving northwest at 45 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include... Dexter, Bloomfield, Puxico, Shook and Zalma.

In western Kentucky, Ballard, Caldwell, Calloway, Carlisle, Christian, Crittenden, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Hopkins, Livingston, Lyon, Marshall, McCracken, McLean, Muhlenberg, Todd, Trigg and Webster. In southeast Missouri, Butler, Mississippi, New Madrid, Ripley, Scott and Stoddard.

From Friday morning through late Friday night

Excessive rainfall from the remnants of Laura will likely bring flash flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Rainfall from the remnants of Laura will be torrential at times Friday into Friday night. Rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches, with locally higher amounts, will be possible in the watch area.
