WIDESPREAD RAIN AMOUNTS OF 1.5 TO 3 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE BEFORE ALL IS SAID AND DONE SATURDAY MORNING. LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS CANNOT BE RULED OUT... AS THIS SYSTEM WILL BE LADEN WITH MOISTURE FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO.
    • * PLEASE MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP. THIS RAINFALL WILL ALSO LIKELY AGGRAVATE ONGOING RIVER FLOODING ACROSS THE REGION.

    • THOSE OF YOU TRAVELING THROUGH THE QUAD STATE REGION WILL CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE RAPID CHANGES IN VISIBILITY DUE TO AREAS OF DENSE FOG THIS EVENING.
    • WARM SOUTHERLY BREEZES ARE BRINGING ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES TO THE REGION. THIS WARM AIR IS MOVING OVER THE RELATIVELY COLD GROUND. THIS IS CAUSING THE AIR NEAR THE SURFACE TO BECOME QUITE SATURATED... LEADING TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF FOG. THE FOG WILL BE LOCALLY DENSE AT TIMES AND MAY VARY RAPIDLY FROM ONE LOCATION TO ANOTHER.
    • BE PREPARED FOR RAPID CHANGES IN VISIBILITY WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING ON ROADWAYS. MAKE SURE THAT YOU KEEP YOUR HEADLIGHTS ON LOW... SIGNAL YOUR INTENTIONS WELL AHEAD OF TIME... SLOW DOWN AND LEAVE PLENTY OF ROOM BETWEEN YOURSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD.
    • AS RAIN CONTINUES TO OVERSPREAD THE REGION... VISIBILITIES DUE TO THE FOG WILL LIKELY IMPROVE SOME. DRIVERS WILL THEN NEED TO BE WATCHFUL FOR PONDING OF WATER ON ROADWAYS AND LOW LYING AREAS.

    • THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PADUCAH HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW... SLEET... AND FREEZING RAIN WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM WEDNESDAY TO 6 AM CST THURSDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
    • * TIMING: RAIN SHOULD BEGIN CHANGING OVER TO FREEZING RAIN... SLEET AND SNOW FROM NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST STARTING EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING. THE CHANGEOVER TO SNOW WILL PROGRESS SOUTHEASTWARD THROUGHOUT THE DAY. THE CHANGEOVER TO SLEET AND SNOW IS NOT EXPECTED TO OCCUR UNTIL WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON GENERALLY SOUTH AND EAST OF THE OHIO RIVER. THE SNOW WILL THEN TAPER OFF FROM NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
    • * MAIN IMPACT: BY EARLY THURSDAY MORNING... SNOWFALL TOTALS ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE FROM FOUR TO SIX INCHES GENERALLY NORTH AND WEST OF A LINE FROM MOUNT CARMEL ILLINOIS TO PERRYVILLE TO VAN BUREN TO DONIPHAN MISSOURI. SOUTH AND EAST OF THAT LINE SIX TO EIGHT INCHES ARE POSSIBLE. AN EIGHT TO TEN INCH SWATH OF SNOWFALL IS POSSIBLE GENERALLY TWENTY-FIVE MILES EITHER SIDE OF A LINE FROM NEW MADRID MISSOURI TO CALHOUN KENTUCKY. AS MUCH AS ONE INCH OF SLEET MAY FALL PRIOR TO THE SNOW... PARTICULARLY ACROSS WESTERN KENTUCKY AND FAR SOUTHEAST MISSOURI.
    • * OTHER IMPACTS: THIS MUCH SNOW AND SLEET WILL PRODUCE TREACHEROUS CONDITIONS AND CAUSE SIGNIFICANT TRAVEL ISSUES ACROSS THE REGION. ISOLATED POWER OUTAGES WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE.     • AS THE COLD AIR RUSHES IN BEHIND THE FRONT... RAIN IS FORECAST TO CHANGE OVER TO A PERIOD OF SLEET BEFORE TRANSITIONING TO SNOW WEDNESDAY MORNING. BY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON... THE PRECIPITATION SHOULD BE IN THE FORM OF SNOW ACROSS ALL BUT SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF WESTERN KENTUCKY... WHERE THE TRANSITION FROM SLEET TO SNOW MAY NOT OCCUR UNTIL AFTERNOON. THE SNOW IS FORECAST TO TAPER OFF FROM NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
