A Memorial Service will be conducted on Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Bernie General Baptist Church in Bernie starting at 10:30 a.m. Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of all arrangements.

In Memory of Michael Wayne Dumey

Michael Wayne Dumey, son of the late Elmer Dumey and Bertha Vetter Dumey, was born on October 12, 1944 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and departed this life on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at his residence in Bloomfield, Missouri at the age of 74 years.

Mr. Dumey was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the USS Edisto Ice Breaker and USS Valley Forge LPH-8.  He was a former educator for several Missouri school districts serving as; a former Guidance Counselor for Clearwater R-1, a former Assistant Superintendent for Greenville R-II and a former Superintendent for Naylor R-II and Bloomfield R-XIV.  He was a former Director of the Bootheel Planning Commission and attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Bloomfield.  He was an avid old-school outdoorsman; he had a great love for fishing the rivers and streams of the area and his most peaceful times were either in his canoe or kayak.  He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

On August 12, 1972, in Chaffee, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Sarah McFerron.   Mrs. Dumey survives of their home in Bloomfield.

In addition to his wife Sarah, he is survived by two sons, Collin Dumey and fiancé Laura Meyer of Dexter, Missouri and Kurt Dumey and wife Stefanie of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by one brother, John Dumey of Chaffee, Missouri; by two sisters, Rae Johnson of Franktown, Colorado and Kae Harrell of Chesapeake, Ohio; and by two grandchildren, Gabriel Dumey and Thomas Dumey, both of Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Dumey.

Friends may call at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, August 4, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 5, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Steven Koerner officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.

In Memory of Betty Sue Whitehead

Betty Sue Whitehead, daughter of the late Mack Clark Sherrod and Maude Redden Sherrod was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on July 30, 1946 and departed this life in St. Francis Medical Center on July 30, 2019 at the age of 73.

Mrs. Whitehead worked at Locust Street Flowers in Dexter, Missouri as a Florist.  She was a member of Bernie General Baptist Church and lived in Bernie.

She was married to Bobby Lee Whitehead in Piggott, Arkansas on November 7, 1997.  Mr. Whitehead survives in their home in Bernie.

Other survivors include one son, Arnold Clark Matthews of Atoka, Tennessee; by one daughter, Catherine “Cathy” Hale of Malden, Missouri; by one brother James Sherrod of Senath, Missouri; by one sister Mary Anna White of Cedar Hill, Missouri; by three grandchildren, Layton, Ezra and Aiden; also other relatives and friends.

Friends may call at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri on Thursday, August 1, 2019 from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M.   

Funeral services will then be conducted at 2:00 P.M. August 1, 2019 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Fitzpatrick officiating. 

Interment will follow in Malden Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden, Missouri.

In Memory of M. Frances Williams Moore

M. Frances Williams Moore, daughter of the late Sherman C. Williams and Clennie Alma Scoggins Williams, was born on December 1, 1935 in Morrilton, Arkansas and departed this life on Monday, July 29, 2019 at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 83 years.

Mrs. Moore graduated from Parma High School in 1953.  She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bloomfield and served on the Board of Directors.  She was a former President of the Trinity United Methodist Women at Bloomfield and a former Treasurer and Spiritual Growth Leader for the Poplar Bluff/Sikeston District Methodist Women.  

She was a former Vice President of the Stoddard County Democrat Central Committee, former member of the Stoddard County Democrat Club and she served four years as a former President of the Stoddard County Women’s Democrat Club.  She was honored as the Eighth District Democrat Woman of the Year and as Stoddard County Democrat Bess Truman Woman of the Year.  

Since 1979, she was a former President and Treasurer of the Stoddard County Historical Society and she was responsible for helping establish the Stoddard County Museum, the Stoddard County History book, the book on Stoddard County Cemeteries and the 1860 Census of Stoddard County.  

She was a former Regent for the Daughters of the American Revolution and helped plan and carryout two Civil War Reenactments.  

She was a former elder in the Cherokee Indian Tribe.

She was a former Vice President for the Stoddard County Genealogy Society and a former Board Member of the Stoddard County Archives.  In 2009, she was awarded the Missouri State “Genealogist” of the Year.

She was responsible for getting the Stoddard County Courthouse on the National Registry of Historic Sites.  She planned and was Master of Ceremonies for the opening ceremony and presented the certificate stating this was a historic Courthouse and was on the National Registry.  She was also in charge of the closing ceremony at the special years end.

She served as a former President and was a former Board Member of the Stoddard County Extension Committee.

She was a former Stoddard County Crusade Chairperson for the American Cancer Society.

She served as a former Bloomfield Cub Scout Leader and was a former Assistant Scoutmaster of Bloomfield Boy Scout Troop 72.  She received the Boy Scout Osage District “Award of Merit” and received several local Boy Scout Awards.  

For several years, she was a former Parent Leader in the Stoddard County 4-H Club.

She was a finalist in the Jefferson Award, presented by Westvaco-Channel 6 for the six-state area and she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce.

On May 23, 1953, in Pocahontas, Arkansas, she was united in marriage to Norman W. Moore.  They were married for 56 years before Mr. Moore’s death on May 27, 2009.

She is survived by her son, Richard W. Moore and wife Susan of Columbia, Missouri; by her granddaughter, Brooks Moore; and by several nieces and nephews.

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Martha Faye Ellis, Margaret May Lizenbee and Alma Jeanice Arnel.

Friends may call at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, August 1, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. 

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Steven Koerner officiating. 

Interment will follow in the West Antioch Cemetery, west of Bloomfield, Missouri.

In Memory of Daniel Lee Petty

Daniel Lee Petty, son of the late Charles Lee Petty and Mary Elizabeth Swinger Petty, was born on August 15, 1959 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and departed this life on Saturday, July 27, 2019 near Cave City, Arkansas at the age of 59 years.

Mr. Petty enjoyed the many hours he spent working on the family farm.   He was a member of the Broadwater Church of the Brethren and a resident of Essex, Missouri.

He is survived by his son, Zach Petty and wife Malarie of Sikeston, Missouri; by his sister Marie Froman and husband Steve of Patterson, Missouri; and by one grandchild, Raelynn Reese.

Friends may call at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, August 2, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

A private, family only, memorial service is being planned for a later date, on the family farm.
