
Dexter, Missouri - The XI Lambda Psi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi hosted the annual Stoddard County Pageants on Sunday, October 9, 2016.
2016 Petite Miss Stoddard County 1st alternate is Landri Grace Baker of Bernie. She is the 9 year-old daughter of Bub and Lisa Baker.
2016 Petite Miss Stoddard County 2nd alternate is Alexa Dillinger of Bernie. She is the 8 year-old daughter of Nick and Cara Dillinger.
The 2016 Petite Miss Stoddard County Queen is Averee Ackman of Dexter. She is the 8 year-old daughter of Trey and Leslie Ackman.

Dexter, Missouri - First United Methodist Church in Dexter will hold a Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, October 16,2016 at 4:00 p.m.
All creatures great and small are welcome! Please have dogs on leashes and other animals safety in your arms or in carriers.
The church is located at 501 South Walnut Street.
There will also be stupid pet tricks and snacks!

First alternate for Little Mister Stoddard County was Archer Menley. He is the 3 year-old son of Mark and Aaron Menley of Dexter.
First alternate for Little Miss Stoddard County was Presley Kay Woods. She is the three year-old daughter of Theron and Lindsay Woods of Dexter.
Second alternate for Little Miss Stoddard County was Alyssa Manes. She is the five year-old daughter of Kevin and Natalie Manes of Bloomfield.
Second alternate Little Mister Stoddard County was Ian LeBeau. He is the 3 year-old son of Kurt and Lindsey LeBeau of Dexter.
2016 Stoddard County King was Brayden Sherfield. He is the four year-old son of Kristen Sherfield and Matt Sherfield of Dexter.
2016 Stoddard County Queen was Tansley Shelton. She is the four year-old daughter of Jason and Melissa Shelton of Bernie.

Bernie, Missouri - Emma Dawson has been chosen as the 2016 ShowMe Times October Calendar Girl!
She is the 15 year-old daughter of Chris and Scarlet Dawson.
She is a sophomore at Bernie High School.
Emma is a high school cheerleader and is active in Sr. Beta, Future Business Leaders of America, FCCLA, and the Pep Club.
Gymnastics and reading use up most of her free time.
Her future plans are to attend college on a pre-med track and then medical school.

Bernie, Missouri - Parents as Teachers in Bernie have selected Alexander Fox Morley as the October Student of the Month.
Fox is the thirteen month old son of Billy and Aleshia Morley.
He loves reading, playing social games, dancing, and most of all snack time.
During the family's PAT visits mom says Fox enjoys all of the new activities Mrs. McGarity brings and participating in the structured play.

History
In 1981, Missouri pioneered the concept of helping parents embrace their important role as their child’s first and best teacher. Today, Parents as Teachers continues to equip early childhood organizations and professionals with information and tools that are relevant—and widely applicable—to today’s parents, families and children.
The Parents as Teachers leadership team and Board of Directors is engaged in a three-year strategic plan, which positions the organization as a valued partner to support the organizations and professionals who serve families and children, especially those most vulnerable.
The concept for Parents as Teachers was developed in the 1970s when Missouri educators noted that children were beginning kindergarten with varying levels of school readiness. Research showed that greater parent involvement is a critical link in the child's development of learning skills, including reading and writing.
Early childhood professionals suggested that a program to provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues, and parent education to help parents understand their role in encouraging their child's development from the beginning could help improve school readiness and parent involvement.
With funding from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and The Danforth Foundation, Parents as Teachers began in 1981 in Missouri as a pilot project for first-time parents of newborns. Recognizing the program's benefits and cost effectiveness, the Missouri legislature provided state funding in 1985 to implement Parents as Teachers programs in all Missouri school districts. Since 1985, Parents as Teachers has expanded to all 50 states and six other countries.
