Local FFA Member Awarded National American FFA Degree INDIANAPOLIS

The Bernie FFA is proud to announce that Mackenzie Hill and Nathan Stephens, both 2023 Graduates of Bernie, will receive their American FFA Degrees in October. I

Each year, the National FFA Organization honors FFA members who show the utmost dedication to the organization through their desire to develop their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. The American FFA Degree is bestowed upon a select group of students in recognition of their years of academic and professional excellence. This year over 4,800 American Degrees were awarded. Mackenzie Hill and Nathan Stephens, members of the Bernie FFA chapter in Missouri, will be awarded the American FFA Degree at the 97th National FFA Convention & Expo on October 26, 2024.

Sponsored by Cargill, Case IH, John Deere, and Syngenta, the award recognizes demonstrated ability and outstanding achievements in agricultural business, production, processing, or service programs. To be eligible, FFA members must have earned at least $10,000 or earned at least $2,000 and worked at least 2,250 hrs. outside of class time through a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program in which they own their own business, hold a professional position as an employee, or conduct research.

Recipients must also complete 50 hours of community service and demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities and civic involvement through the completion of a long list of FFA and community activities. Less than one percent of FFA members achieve the American FFA Degree.

After being recognized at the national convention, each recipient of the American FFA Degree receives a gold American FFA Degree key and certificate. The National FFA Organization is a school-based national youth leadership development organization of more than 1,027,200 student members as part of 9,235 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands

2024 DHS Homecoming Candidates Announced

The 2024 Homecoming Ceremony will take place on September 6th against the Sikeston Bulldogs with the Coronation at 6:30 p.m. at Charles Bland Stadium.  Kick-off at 7:00 p.m. and the Tailgate is from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Emma Pennington and Alexis Sisk were chosen by the Football Team.

Bloomfield School District Welcomes New Staff

It's always an exciting time to be a new employee at a school as they get a new classroom and meet all the student.  Bloomfield School District hired six new people this academic school year.

Kelby Hill will be teaching first grade, Tori Tharp will be teaching middle school and high school FACS, Maddy Ringer will be teaching fourth grade, Cameron Shipman will be over the Juvenile Classroom, Delaney Simmons will have the Refocus Room and Hayley Causey is the new high school secretary.

Bloomfield School Board Meets - Set Tax Rate, Approve Substitute Teacher List

Bloomfield School Board met and set the Tax Rate as well as approved Substitute Teaching list.

August tax rate hearing and board meeting notes.  

The tax rate hearing was held, and the board approved keeping the tax rate at $3.3600 as it has been previous years.  

The board approved:
* opening a new bank account to accept online payments through Teacher Ease for lunch account payments.  
*  Approved Full Maintenance Service Agreement with MSBA. 
*  Approved Special Education Local Compliance Plan. 
*  Approved Veregy for Project Coordination and Management.
*  Approved various district policies and procedures. 

The Board heard reports from all three building principals, and in my report I updated the Board on summer projects, discussed the Board provided lunch on Wednesday, gave the Board an update on the upcoming school year, and introduced the Board to Wayfinder.  Wayfinder will be a social emotional learning tool our counselors will utilize with students including a "portrait of a graduate" aspect that will be a great tool for our students.   

In executive session, the Board approved:
*  Substitute list
*  Resignation of Jacob McNeil from Fall Baseball Assistant Coach and Head Junior High Baseball Coach.  
*  Hired Dennis Graser as Fall Baseball
*  Discussed the addition of a School Resource Officer position

Bernie School Board Meets, Tax Rate Set, Substitution List Approved

The Bernie School Board met on August 12, 2024.  Below are the Board Notes: August 12, 2024

The Board of Education held their annual Tax Rate Hearing before the start of the regular school board meeting on Monday the 12th day of August. The tax rate in the General fund was set at 2.9853. The tax rate in the Debt Service Fund was held at $.30.

The Principals gave their building reports and Mr. Botsch gave a facility update.

The Board approved Program Evaluations on School Climate and Summer School. The Board accepted the 2023/24 Annual Secretary of Board Report.

Lindsay Beaird presented changes to the Local Compliance Plan and the Board of Education approved the Plan as presented.

The Board approved the Gifted Program for the 2024/25 School Year.
The Board approved the financial statement and bills were authorized for payment.

During Executive session, Superintendent Goals were reviewed.
The substitute employee list for the 2024/2025 school year was approved.
The Board added April Wamble and Rhonda Duckworth to the Substitute listing.

The next meeting of the Board will be Monday, September 9, 2024.
