Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Senior High School Jazz Cats traveled to Jonesboro, Arkansas, for some new advice.

Departing early Saturday morning on April 26, The Jazz Cats embarked on an adventure of a lifetime, meeting Ron Carter and his son Bryan Carter.

Ron Carter is a jazz professor, and saxophonist, who has helped the Duke Ellington program and many other programs like it. His son, Bryan, was a drummer in the Grammy Award's band.

These clinicians called the group 'young swingers' because of the swing style of jazz. The band played "Afro Blue", "Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey" , "After You've Gone", and "Honk". This being the first time the Dexter Cats traveled to Valley View High School for this music festival, some would say the clinicians were impressed.

The Middle School Jazz Cats then took the stage and played "Misty", "Take Five", "A Night In Tunisia", and "Salt Peanuts". Landon Stites, Lead Alto and eighth grader took a solo on "Misty". Lead Trumpeter and eighth grader Layla Brown and Lead Tenor Shelby Smith had a solo on "A Night In Tunisia", and Travis Propst, a seventh grade trumpet player took a solo on "Salt Peanuts."

After a break for lunch, the clinicians spoke about subdivision of the beat and the feel or style of music. They soon afterwards had another break and came back for a concert. The Valley View Junior High School Jazz Band performed first followed by the Valley View High School Jazz Band. The night closed out with a performance by the ASU, Arkansas State University, 11 O'clock Band.
