
Dexter, MO - The Dexter high school boys tennis team hosted the Poplar Bluff Mules on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at their home opener. Poplar Bluff won the match 7-2
Dexter's Peyton Boles and Drake Channell won their singles matches. Boles won 9-8 (7-3) and Channell won 8-3.
"Poplar Bluff has depth down the roster and that made a tremendous difference today," commented head tennis coach Eric Boles. "This year will be a challenge for the Bearcats."
The Mules swept the doubles matches.
"We have a very young team," continued Boles. "Of the 10 total players, we have only one who has 2 or more years of experience."
The Bearcats put out 3 varsity players with zero playing experience at all and two athletes with only one year of experience.
"We will continue to improve and we will be much better at the end of the season than we will be at the start."

Cape Girardeau, MO - The Dexter boys and girls track and field teams competed in the Notre Dame Frozen Invitational on Saturday, March 19, 2022. The meet lived up to its name as the temperature was a little chilly on Saturday morning, but heated up throughout the day.
DHS boys track finished 9th with 38 points out of the 19 schools participating. Jackson High School finished in first place with 133 total points.
DHS girls track finished 7th with 38.5 points out of the 17 schools participating. Rockwood Summit High Schools finished in first place with 119 total points.
"I feel like both teams did a fantastic job for the first meet of the season," commented head track and field coach James DeBerry. "The N.D. Frozen definitely lived up to the name! For most of the meet it was cold and windy. That is going to have an effect on times/field events. I told my athletes we aren't here to win this today. We are here to get the wheel moving again. To establish a base, and set goals moving forward. I would say overall we achieved that."
Joshua Alday, senior, placed 1st in boys javelin. He threw an impressive 47.47 meters setting a meet record.
Lucas Alday, senior, placed 6th in the shot put throwing 12.10 meters.
In the boys DMR Cameron Bell, Anistin Kyle, Ben Dowdy, and Chris Stone finished 6th place with a time of 12:15.81
In the boys 4x200 Relay Farmer, Grams, Damon Helton, and Tristan Bryant finished in 4th place with a time of 1:40.33
In the boys 4.100m relay Damon Helton, Farmers, Tristan Bryant and Grams finished 8th with a time of 47.48.
in the boys 4x400m relay Anistin Kyle, Farmer, Chris Stone and Levi DeMent finished 2nd place.
"For the boys Josh Alday set a meet record with a javelin throw of 47.77m to earn him 1st place. RJ Farmer placed 3rd in the 300m hurdles. I was impressed with the boys 4x400m team. They finished 2nd with a time of 3:44. You can expect us to be working on that a lot more this season," continued DeBerry.
Gabby Brown placed 2nd in the 1600m with a time of 5:41.75 She also finished 2nd in the 800m with a time of 2:32.07 Brown placed 4th in the 3200m with a time of 12:25.11.
In the girls DMR Abbie Lloyd, Avery Neely, Kali Hale, and Marie Fees placed 6th with a time of 15:22.11.
Avery Neely finished 7th in the girls high jump event with a jump of 1.31m.
Abbie Lloyd vaulted 2.13 m in the girls pole vault earning her a 5th place finish.
Dulcie Pullen earned 8th place in girls shot put throwing 8.76m.
"For the girls Gabby Brown and Allison Turnbo brought home several 2nd place finishes. I was impressed with Abbie Lloyd getting a 5th place finish in Pole Vault. We just brought that back to Dexter this year with the help of Coach Dona!"
"As a whole I thought the team did a great job of staying positive and giving their best effort despite the cold conditions. I was also proud of my athletes for standing on the infield cheering on fellow team members. They were excited to get this first meet underway!"
DHS Track and Field Teams will be back in action on Thursday, March 24th at the East Prairie Open. Track time is 4 p.m.

Advance Hornets baseball team will compete in Class 1, District 2 with Bell City, Delta, Leopold, Oran, and Zalma.
Bell City Cubs baseball team will compete in Class 1, District 2 with Advance, Delta, Leopold, Oran, and Zalma.
Bernie Mules baseball team will compete in Class 2, District 1 with Campbell, Holcomb, Portageville, Senath-Hornersville, and South Pemiscot.
Bloomfield Wildcats baseball team will compete in Class 2, District 3 with ellington, Greenville, Meadow Heights, Puxico and Saxony Lutheran.
Dexter Bearcats baseball team will compete in Class 4, District 1 with Doniphan, Fredericktown, Kennett, and Notre Dame.
Puxico Indians baseball team will compete in Class 2, District 3 with Bloomfield, Ellington, Greenville, Meadow Heights, and Saxony Lutheran.
Richland Rebels baseball team will compete in Class 1, District 1 with Clarkton, Cooter, Risco, Scott Central, and Southland.
Advance Lady Hornets Softball team will compete in Class 2, District 2 with Arcadia Valley, Bloomfield, Clearwater, Dexter, Puxico, Scott City and Woodland.
Bernie Lady Mules Softball team will compete in Class 1, District 2 with Campbell, Delta, Gideon, Leopold, Oak Ridge, Oran and Scott Central.
Dexter Track & Field will compete in Class 3, District 1 featuring NMCC, Doniphan, Kelly, Kennett, Arcadia Valley, park Hills Central, Fredericktown, Jefferson, Potosi and Ste. Genevieve.
Bell City Track & Field will compete in Class 1, District 1 with Delta, Hayti Marquand-Zion, Oran, Richland, Scott Central, St. Vincent, Van Buren, Zalma, Couch, Crossroads Prep, Crystal City, Principia, St. Paul Lutheran, Fulton-St. Albans, Valle Catholic, Viburnum, and Winona.
Class 1 District 1 Boys Tennis will feature Dexter, Notre Dame, Sikeston, and Arcadia Valley.
Class 3 Golf will consist of Dexter, Doniphan, Kennett, and Perryville.
Class 1 Golf will consist of Bloomfield, Saxony Lutheran, Senath-Hornersville, and St. Vincent.

"I'v very optimistic about this upcoming season," commented Dexter head coach James DeBerry. "We have several returning athletes that made it to State last year and we also have a handful of freshmen that I see getting us some points. Practice has been great the past few weeks and we have just got to put our aces in their places!"
You will have two opportunities to see track & field in Dexter. The Bearcats will host two meets on March 29th and May 3rd.
As far as returning athletes, Josh Alday will compete in the javelin. "This is Alday's senior year," cominued DeBerry. "I expect to see him picking up several meters this year."
RJ Farmer and Aniston Kyle made it to State last year as freshmen. "I expect to see them progress in the 300m hurdles, 400m dash, and the 4x400m relay."
