
Dexter, MO - Dexter High School Track & Field opened at the Notre Dame Frozen Invitation on Saturday, March 19, 2022. The name lived up to the nice cool weather on Saturday morning, but throughout the day the temps did creep up to a nice afternoon.
"I'v very optimistic about this upcoming season," commented Dexter head coach James DeBerry. "We have several returning athletes that made it to State last year and we also have a handful of freshmen that I see getting us some points. Practice has been great the past few weeks and we have just got to put our aces in their places!"
You will have two opportunities to see track & field in Dexter. The Bearcats will host two meets on March 29th and May 3rd.
"Gabby Brown is our senior girls' distance runner this year," stated DeBerry. "She had a successful cross country season and I am hopeful she will be our top point earner racking up top 3 finishes for most of our schedule."
"Allison Turbo is a sophomore 300m hurdler and sprinter. She is just an all around solid athlete who can compete in just about every event."

Bernie, MO - The Bernie Lady Mules opened their season at home with back-to-back games against Charleston and Puxico. They defeated Charleston 11-0 in 5 innings and beat Puxico 19-0 in 3 innings.
"It was a good start to our season," stated coach Brad Botch. "Sara did a good job throwing strikes and our defense was very solid behind her. We hit the ball pretty well today, especially as cold and nasty as it was outside. Big week next week with 4 games and a tournament next weekend. We'll see what we're made of quickly, but I'm proud of the girls for starting off well. They practice hard and should expect success."
Coach Botch is helping the Mules this spring while head coach Cendyl McGowen is away on maternity leave.
Botch isn't new to coaching the softball team. He coached the softball team in 2002 and 2003 and then again from 2012 - 2019.
Against the Charleston Lady Jays Piper Schoemehl 2-2, 3 runs, 5 stolen bases, Abby Powell 2-3, 2 RBIs, Anna Eaton 1-3, 3b, 1 RBI, Gracie Cluck 2-2, 2 runs. Sara Guzman was on the mound for Bernie and allowed only 2 hits, 0 runs, 4 k's and had a complete game shutout in 5 innings.
Against the Puxico Indians Piper Schoemehl 1-1, 3 BB (walks), 4 stolen bases, 4 runs, Mackenzie Powell 1-2, 2 runs, Gracie Cluck 2-2, 2 runs. Cluck also finished a complete game shutout with 0 runs, 1 hit and 2 strikeouts in three innings.
The Bernie softball team (2-0)will be in back in action on Monday, March 21st traveling to Risco. First pitch at 4:45 p.m.

Dexter, MO - The Bearcats under new head coach James Sneed opened their 2022 season at home. Originally the games were to be played in Clearwater, but due to rain on Friday, moved them to Dexter. They split the double header losing to Malden and a win against Clearwater.
Despite a 4-run deficit in the sixth inning, the varsity 'Cats almost came back, but eventually fell 8-7 to the Malden Green Wave.
Dexter scored three runs on a double by Kaeden Kennedy in the sixth inning and a walk by Ryan Young in the seventh.
Malden collected nine hits and Dexter had six hits. Camden Riley, Nolan Alford, Kennedy, Beau Carrier, Brock Wyman, and Taylor Condict each managed one hit for Dexter.
The Green Wave jumped out to an early lead with five runs in the third inning.
#5 Ethan Campbell, Malden, lasted three innings allowing only three hits and two runs while striking out five.
Wyman started on the hill for Dexter. The hurler allowed six hits and five runs over four innings, striking out four and walking zero.
Ryan Young, a sophomore for the Bearcats, threw three innings out of the bullpen.
Malden Green wave was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Dexter finished the game with only one error.
In the Clearwater game Dexter won 16-1.
The Bearcats (1-1) will be back in action on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Kennett. First pitch at 4:00 p.m.

Dexter, MO - The 2022 Dexter High School Tennis team will open their season at home against the Poplar Bluff Mules on Thursday, March 24th. Match begins at 4:00 p.m. They will compete in four tournaments: Cape Central Doubles Tournament, SEMO Conference Tournament, Poplar Bluff Tournament and the Farmington Tournament.
The Bearcats have two returning JV players, sophomores Landon Jarrell and Rhyder Williams. They have two new freshmen, Lawson Blocker and Cooper Worley and two new juniors, Clayton Whitaker and Kylan Moore.
Dexter will return varsity players, senior Drake Channell and juniors, Peyton Boles, Drew Chamberlain and Logan Jones.
Channell finished with a 4-10 singles record and 4-13 doubles record in 2021.
Boles finished his 2021 season 10-4 in singles and 12-6 in doubles. He also finished first place with his doubles partner in the Poplar Bluff INvitational Tournament and finished 2nd Place in the 4th Flight of the Farmington Invitational Singles Tournament.
Chamberlain finished his 2021 season 0-8 in singles and 5-12 in doubles while Jones was 1-1 in singles and 0-3 in doubles.
"Last year our record was 3-8 for varsity boys," stated head tennis coach Eric Boles. "We had one of the best singles players and doubles teams in our area, but with the graduation of our #1, #2, and #5 players, we are going to be a very, very young team."
"Most of my juniors have one year of tennis experience (due to a loss of play their freshman year due to COVID-19) at the varsity level," continued Boles. "We are also going to be playing a couple of very young players (freshman) at the varsity level."
