2019 DHS Baseball - New Season, New Leadership

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter High School baseball team is slated to open its season on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at East City Park where they will face the defending Class 3 state champion the Malden Green Wave at 10:00 a.m. and then Clearwater at 2:00 p.m.

The Bearcats lost six starters from the 2018 season that went 5-16.  Longtime head coach Brian Becker retired and assistant coach Drew Pixley has now stepped up to take over as head coach in the 2019 season.  There are also a lot of new faces at the varsity level as well.

Drew Pixley is a 2007 graduate of Dexter High School and wasa  three time 1st Team All-Conference and 1st Team All-District during his high school baseball career.  He played two years of college baseball at Mineral Area College before playing two more years at Murray State University graduating in 2012.

Pixley has a passion for baseball there is no doubt that he will bring a lot of knowledge and experience to the plate.  He moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 2014 and worked for Elite Baseball where his main focus was to develop young baseball players and prepare them to play at the next level.  He worked with more than 120 athletes that have either played baseball, are currently playing, or are signed to play next year.  He also helped analyze swing mechanics for Derek Fisher, who is currently playing for the Houston Astros as an outfielder and was a 2017 World Series Champion.

It's great to have him back in Dexter working with our youth and developing talent on the baseball field.  He is assisted by his father, Aaron Pixley, and by veteran assistant coach Cody Boyer.

The 2019 Bearcat Baseball Team is comprised of the following players in alphabetical order: Carson Bell, Taylor Condict, Bradyn Crockett, Andrew Dodson, Peyton Driskill, Ben Dyle, Braxton Greenfield, Corey Hawkins, Garrett Henson, Haden Hillis, Caleb Hoggard, Trey Johnson, Dawson Jones, Josh Kaufman, Ethan Kincy, Diego McCormick, Clay Prance, Camden Riley, Adam Saylors, Riley Slusher, Luke Thurston, Tristan Williams and Tyler Wright.

Former Pro Athlete Donates Memorabilia to Alma Mater
Poplar Bluff High School Class of 1967 graduate Eddie Moss, who went on to play in the NFL, donated his collection of sports memorabilia on Friday, Feb. 22, for a new Mules wall of fame display, spearheaded by security officer Wesley Lewis.

Moss, who comes from a large family of “super athletes,” according to Lewis, was selected in the 13th round of the NFL draft in 1972 by the Buffalo Bills, and went on to play for the St. Louis Football Cardinals from 1973-76, along with the Washington Redskins from 1977-78. Previously a top rusher in back-to-back seasons at Southeast Missouri State University, Moss was named a member of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2016.

Now retired in St. Louis, Moss decided he would pass on his prized possessions—which included a professional portrait, official resolution, newspaper article, sports program, award plaque and signed jersey—to his alma mater because he thought it would be “something good for the kids,” he said.
