The family grudge match with New Madrid County Central ended with New Madrid County Central defeating the Bearcats by a score of 28 to 13. With evenly matched teams, the game was a battle that left the Bearcats on the short side of points on the scoreboard.
This was a tough loss for the Bearcat but yielded good comments by Head Coach Aaron Pixley.
"We felt the boys played pretty good Friday night," noted Pixley. "The team really seemed to come together."
The dazzling play of Chase Young offensively gave the Bearcats the spark they needed to appear that a possible win was going to happen. Young had two touchdowns for the 'Cats of 77-yards and 84-yards to highlight his night. Overall, Young posted over 200-yards against the Eagles to make his third week as the SMT Player of the Week for Week Six.
Defensively, junior defensive end Holden Bruce is the Week Six SMT Player of the Week. Tasked with a tough job, the defensive end position is critical against the outside speed and athleticism the Eagles possess. Holden was able to provide containment throughout the night while tallying up 7 solo tackles.
"The play of these two young men was outstanding and we are really proud of the effort they have given this season." added Pixley.

The ShowMe Times is proud to highlight the individual performance of two Dexter Bearcat Football student-athletes each week as the SMT Players of the Week. No one individual's contribution wins a game or makes the team strong. Yet the coordinated effort of many make for a winning combination.

The Dexter Varsity Football Bearcats will be in action Friday night at Charles "Seed" Bland Stadium at 7:00 for a match-up with the Charleston Bluejays. This is the annual Homecoming football game for the Dexter Bearcats and is sure to showcase maximum effort from the home team Bearcats as they try to get a win for the Bearcat faithful.
The game will feature a very good Charleston Bluejays team against a young and upcoming Bearcat squad. The Bluejays have 4 wins and only two losses to Sikeston and Caruthersville this season.
The Bearcats come into this game after a tough loss at the hands of the New Madrid County Central Eagles last Friday night. The Cats played a good game and had chances to win the game with a couple of opportunities in the redzone but failed to get into the endzone. The Bearcats ultimately lost the game which took their record to 1-5 on the season.
The Bearcats opponent this week the Charleston Bluejays, look to be just as formidable as last weeks match-up with the New Madrid County Central Eagles. The Charleston Bluejays sit with a record of 4-2, with wins against; Cleveland NJROTC a school from St. Louis, Hayti, NMCC, and Kennett.
The Bluejays most recent win came last Friday night against the Kennett Indians. The Indians played the game close and only trailed by 12 points with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter but the Bluejays rushing attack proved to be too much for the Indians to handle.

Aaron Pixley is 11-1 against the Bluejays as head coach of the Dexter Bearcats. Dexter has won 10 straight games against the Bluejays, with the average margin of victory over Charleston being 26 points.
Dexter will need to play tough on defense on Friday night if they want to stop the Charleston Bluejays rushing attack. The Bearcats are sure to be fired up for this Homecoming game against the Charleston Bluejays, so make sure you come out and support them on Friday night at 7:00 as they try for a win.

Monday night, the varsity teams of the Red Team and Green Team took the field in a hard hitting contest. The Red Team's Haden Hillis was able to put the first points on the board for the Red Team from his quarterback position. Hillis was able to get loose on a good run to score for his team.
The Varsity Green team faced off against the Varsity Red team in a defensive showdown. Hayden Hillis scored for the Red team on a long reverse run in the first half. The score stayed tied up until Joe Rice punched one in for the Green team in the second half to tie the game up at 6-6.
Loyd Rice, coach of the Green team commented. "Neither of these two teams had posted a win so far during the year, so it was a great little game for all our boys. They were so keyed up to have played on the big field under the lights!"
"We all had some extra effort and energy, our guys all played well and this was the highlight of their season so far." recalled Loyd

The Black Team took on the Blue Team in JV Tuesday night action. The Blue Team played tough with a strong running game that was put on by some great blocking by their offensive line and good running by Max Worth. Worth is a big athletic kid that proved to be more than the Black Team could handle.

The JV league is made up of 3rd and 4th grade kids and is the 1st year for full contact football for all these kids, and has gone remarkably well. The kids have really worked hard at learning the fundamentals of the game. The goal of this league is to teach these kids how to play the game right.
"We want to see them continue to improve on the fundamentals and grow into Bearcats that we all watch on Friday nights." commented Black coach Brett Dorton.
"This little league program is a valuable tool in building future Bearcats and the enthusiasm around it has been remarkable and everyone seems to be enjoying it." recalled Brett.
"The kids are having a great time and learning a lot," commented coach Jason Comfort. "They are learning the fundamentals like the proper way to tackle and the proper stance."
Camden Riley was able to have a good showing for the Black Team. With some good blocks, Camden took several hand-offs from his quarterback Carter Dorton and was able to sweep around the end for big gains.
Black team found themselves a little under-sized, but remained competitive through shear determination. The Blue team played strong on defense and despite good defense by the Black team they were able to get in the endzone several times. The Blue team played very well all around and won the game by the final score 31-6.
Blue Team coach Nate Stevens commented. "I have a great bunch of kids that are fun to coach. They really listen well and they are catching on to what we are trying to teach them."
These two teams will meet again this coming Saturday in DPR action.

It wasn’t your average volleyball game last night in the Bearcat Event Center. The Puxico Indians came to town to take on the Dexter Bearcats in a Junior Varsity and Varsity match up that was much more than a volleyball game.
Instead of the usual sea of red one might see upon walking into an athletic event in the Bearcat Event Center, most people could be found wearing pink while in attendance at last night’s game.
This year’s Breast Cancer Awareness game sponsored by the Lady Bearcat Volleyball team was known as, “Hits for Hope.” Dexter is not solo in hosting an event like this, as Bloomfield, Bernie, and Richland are to host one as well.
During last night’s game between the Bearcats and Indians, the Bearcats wore specially made pink uniforms, the whistles used by the refs were pink, and a pink ball was used during both the Junior Varsity and Varsity games.
With a feeling of happiness for those who are survivors, and a sense of hurt for loved ones lost to breast cancer, there was a great turn out for support of the volleyball game.
With the players out on the court in their pink uniforms, many people were reminded of the great community in which we live in that is willing to turn something like a high school volleyball game into a fundraiser for 18 Fore Life and Breast Cancer Awareness.
It was a great game between the two schools, but the Dexter Bearcats took the victory in just two sets over the Indians.
The Bearcats came up big with many kills and a large number of digs against the Indians. Dexter took the first set with a score of 25-16.
The second set was a little too close for comfort for some Bearcat fans. Puxico came out onto the court strong and ready to return everything the Dexter Bearcats sent over the net. Despite Puxico’s talent and efforts, Dexter took the second set as well with a final of 25-22.
It was a great game played by the two very talented teams. Besides the game, the number of supporters for Hits for Hope was very impressive. There was even a large student section all decked out in pink to match the decorations hanging all around the Bearcat Event Center.
All donations will be given to 18 Fore Life and Breast Cancer Awareness. A huge thanks goes out to the many volunteers to make this happen. It’s safe to say that Hits for Hope was quite a hit!

In the first game of the Dexter Middle School Lady Bearcats season it was full of ups and downs. Both of the Lady 'Cat teams played well against the Donettes of Doniphan.
In the first game of the night the 7th grade Lady Cats came out a little slow but managed to be down by only four points at halftime by the score of 16-12.
The 7th grade Lady 'Cats played tough on defense but failed to capitalize on enough of their offensive oppurtunities and fell to the Donettes by the final score of 36-30.
In the final game of the night the 8th grade Lady Bearcats took on the 8th grade Doniphan Donettes. This game showcased a much better offense by the Lady 'Cats. In the first quarter of action Dexter came out looking sharp on defense but so did the Donettes.
As the game wore on the Lady 'Cats pulled further ahead in the lead by the score of 20-16 at halftime and a 30-23 third quarter score. In the final quarter Dexter's hustling defense created numerous turnovers and led to the final score of 48-36 and a Dexter Lady 'Cats victory.
The 7th and 8th grade Dexter Lady 'Cats next game will be at T.S. Hill Middle School against the Campbell Lady Camels on Thursday, October 4th at 6:00 P.M.
