Jake Grubbs

Jake Grubbs

Jake Grubbs, son of the late Callie and Pearl Grubbs, was born on April 13, 1926 in Parma, Missouri and departed this life on June 26, 2014 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau at the age of 88.

Mr. Grubbs was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II.  He had worked as a Janitor for Purolater Manufacturing in Dexter and was a resident of Dexter.

On March 12, 1945 he was united in marriage to Jean Ann Grubbs in Parma, Missouri.  Mrs. Grubbs preceded him in death on August 12, 2009.

He is survived by three sons, Russell Grubbs of Bloomfield, Roger Grubbs of Dexter and Donald Grubbs of Wappapello; by five daughters, Debra “Debby” Grubbs, Patsy McCoy, Mary Tucker, Wanda “Cookie” West, all of Dexter and Christina Grubbs of Doniphan; and by nineteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Grubbs, Oakley Grubbs and Lloyd Grubbs; by three sisters, Polly Grubbs-Ross, Edna Grubbs Williamson and Theda Grubbs Rodgers; by two grandsons, Derek Lee Turner and Robert McCoy; by one granddaughter, Diana Holderfield; and by one great-grandson, Eric McCoy.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. with Sister Karen Oldham-Hardin officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with full military honors.

Kaden Phillip Robert

In Loving Memory of Kaden Phillip Robert, 15 of Benton, MO died Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born June 2, 1999 in Cape Girardeau, MO to David Aaron and Rhonda Rochelle Riley Robert.


Kaden was a sophomore at Kelly High School, a member of Baseball team, Football team, pep club and an Honor Roll Student.


He is survived by his parents, David and Rhonda Robert of Benton; a sister Claire Robert of the home; maternal grandparents, Richard Riley of Blodgett and Carol Riley of Benton; paternal grandparents, David & Carla Robert of Benton; paternal great grandparents, Bill & Pat Schlosser and Mary Ann Robert all of Benton.


Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday at Kelly High School Gymnasium in Benton, MO.


Funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton with Rev. Michael Casteel as celebrant.


Burial will be in St. Denis Catholic Cemetery.

Mildred Marie Tucker
Mildred Marie Tucker, daughter of the late Maurice and O'Dessa Sampson Duckworth, was born on February 8, 1921, near Essex, Missouri.  She departed this life with the peace of knowing the Lord on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at the Cypress Point Care Center in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 93 years, 4 months, and 23 days. 

She worked for Comeau Nursing Home for many years. She loved fishing, camping, and was a blue grass/gospel festival enthusiast. She loved putting together puzzles, embroidery work and made many items for family and friends.

She was a member of New Bethel General Baptist Church near Dexter for 58 years, she was the oldest living member of the church.  She was a Sunday school teacher and choir member, attending regularly until ill health prevented her.

She was united in marriage to R.C. Tucker at the courthouse in Bloomfield, Missouri on November 24, 1943.  Mr. Tucker preceded her in death on July 14, 2012.  They had been married for 69 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Williamson of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Thelma & Jimmy Thompson of Dexter, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Rosemary (Frailey) Phillips of Union, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Alvie George Tucker of Alton, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Jane Tucker of Bloomfield, Missouri; five grandchildren, Crystal Frailey, Sherri & Will Kent, Daron & Tonya Williamson, Cleveland & Angela Williamson, and Brian Thompson; Seven great grandchildren, Kyle Williamson, Nathan & Jaki Welker, McKenzie Welker, Austin Williamson, Haylee Henson, Rhett James Williamson, and Laura Nichole Williamson; and one great great grandson, Zaden Lee Welker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, R. C. Tucker; one son, Hayward Frailey, son-in-law James Williamson; one brother who died in infancy, and two brothers-in-laws, J.D. Tucker and Wayne Tucker.

The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and concerns.  A special thank you to those who took the time to visit during the last years. She enjoyed those who visited and would tell us who had come.

Friends may visit on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, from 5:30 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Dean Williams of Dexter, Missouri officiating.

Interment with be in the Essex Cemetery in Essex, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Karen Sue Franklin

Karen Sue Franklin, daughter of the late Lee J. Jarrell and Beulah Black Jarrell, was born on March 1, 1955 in Dexter and departed this life on June 22, 2014 at Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter at the age of 59.

Karen was a member of the Church of Christ in Bernie and had worked as a Customer Service Representative at Walmart in Dexter.

She is survived by one son, Chad Owens and his wife, Sara, of Bernie; by one daughter, Misty Franklin and her husband, Stanley, of Wingo, Kentucky; by four brothers, Jim Jarrell, Ronnie Jarrell, Tom Jarrell and Jerry Jarrell, all of Bloomfield; by two sisters, Patricia Mason and Kay Wiley, both of Bloomfield; and by four grandchildren, Matthew Lee Franklin, Johnathan Blake Franklin, Madison Nacole Franklin and Paisley Renea Owens. 

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. with Bro. Stan Dauck and Bro. David Lemmons officiating.


Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter.

Logan Andrew Crawford

Logan Andrew Crawford, son of Kevin Crawford and Kristin Cox Crawford of Dexter, was born on June 4, 2014 in Cape Girardeau and departed this life on June 18, 2014 at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital in St. Louis at the age of 14 days.

In addition to his parents, Logan is survived by one brother, Lucas Hayden Crawford; by one sister, Halle Grace Crawford; by his paternal grandparents, Ronald and Karen Crawford of Waterford, Michigan and Sandy and Gary Gough of Dexter; by his maternal grandmother, Belinda Crowley of Dexter; and by his maternal great-grandfather, Richard Cox of Charleston.

Logan was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Hal Cox.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 5:00 P.M. with Rev. Greg McGhee officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
