Mary Bessie Woodruff, daughter of the late Ira Purcell and Alta Riddle Purcell, was born February 2, 1922 in Dexter and departed this life on July 15, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Dexter at the age of 89.

Mrs. Woodruff was affiliated with the United Pentecostal Church in Dexter, a home maker and a resident of Dexter.

On March 17, 1939 she was united in marriage to Robert Harold Woodruff in Dexter. Mr. Woodruff preceded her in death on July 11, 1996.

Mrs. Woodruff is survived by one daughter, Linda Wallace and husband Donald of Hartland, Michigan; by four grandchildren, Julie Jackson, Cherie Ives, Becky Bolitho, and Matthew Wallace, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Billy Gene Woodruff; by one daughter, Shirley Cobb; by two sisters, Mildred McCoy and Ellen Pullum; and by four grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 until 8 p.m., Sunday, July 17, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 18, 2011 at 10:30 a.m., in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery.

Gladys Lorene Steward, daughter of the late Fred and Delpha Campbell Cantrell, was born in Thayer, Missouri on April 9, 1927, and passed away at the Southern Missouri Healthcare in Dexter on July 13, 2011, at the age of 84.

Gladys worked at Senath Nursing Home for 23 years as a CNA, retired in 1993 and moved to Bloomfield. She enjoyed word search puzzles, yard sales, and family reunions, especially fourth of July and family get togethers. She also loved Josh Turner and Elvis Presley along with country music shows. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, she was like a little kid opening presents and especially enjoyed her grandchildren when opening their gifts. She attended the First Assembly of God Church in Bloomfield before her illness kept her from attending.

Surviving are six sons and spouses, Ivan & Tanya Bostic of Bloomfield; Clyde Bostic of Nixa; Jim and Mary Bostic of Flint, Mich., Wayne & Faye Bostic of Dexter, Ronnie and Regina Bostic of Wilson, Arkansas, Gene Gillenwater of Nixa, Missouri; one daughter, Deborah Gillenwater of Kennett; 23 grandchildren, Connie, Calvin, Ivan Jr., Tracy, Dwayne, Wendy, Amy, Jason, Chad, Angie, Rusty, Beth Ann, Tony, Anthony, Tina, Mike, Alicia, Alan, Catrese, Ronnie Joe, Shane, Sara and Eric; 43 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one brother, Herbert Cantrell of Bald Knob, Arkansas; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Hubert Cantrell and one great grandchild.

Friends may call on Friday, July 15, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m., at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Services will be on Saturday June 16, 2011, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Lulu Cemetery in Senath with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.

Willis A. Layton, son of the late Raymond Everett and Mary Alice Merriman Layton, was born in Morehouse, Missouri on March 1, 1954, and passed away at his home near Essex, Missouri on July 12, 2011, at the age of 57 years, 4 months and 11 days.

Mr. Layton had lived in Texas, spent fifteen years in Dexter and lived near Essex, Missouri at this time. He had been an auto mechanic.

Surviving are one son, Robert Cullum of Dexter, Missouri; one daughter, Natalie Henson of Texas; three step-children, Jewell & Richard Cullum both of Dexter, Missouri, Dixie Cullum of Florida; three sisters,. Lois M. Carmack of Sikeston, Missouri, Joyce W. Hall and Parzee E. Baker both of Essex; one brother, Doyle R. Layton of Essex, Missouri; two half-brothers, A. W. Layton of Sikeston, Missouri, and R. D. Layton of Rockford, Illinois. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two sons, Bradley and Raymond Henson and one brother, Danny Lee Layton.

Lillie M. Glasener, daughter of the late Rev. W. H. and Minnie Vietta Moyers Stratman, was born in Bollinger County, Missouri on March 25, 1914, and passed away at the Puxico Nursing Center in Puxico, Missouri on July 12, 2011, at the age of 97 years, 3 months and 17 days.

She had lived in the Zalma and Puxico, Missouri areas all her life. She enjoyed gardening, mowing the lawn, raising flowers and fishing.

On December 26, 1931, she was married to Jessie Clyde Glasener in Piggott, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on November 17, 1961.

Surviving are one son, Harold Clyde Glasener of Zalma, Missouri; two daughters, Betty June Simpson of Wappapello, Missouri, Lillie Darlene Price of Puxico, Missouri; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Stratman, one sister, Beulah Stratman and three half brothers.

Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, July 14, 2011, at 10:30 AM at the Bollinger County Memorial Cemetery in Marble Hill, Missouri with the Rev. Ray Placher of Puxico, Missouri officiating.

Interment will be in the Bollinger County Memorial Cemetery in Marble Hill, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.

Charles Mitchell Jones, son of the late Archie and Fleeta Waldrup Jones, was born in Sikeston, Missouri on March 12, 1937, and passed away at the Heritage Gardens Nursing Home in Portageville, Missouri on July 9, 2011, at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 27 days.

He had lived in Stoddard County all his life and had lived in Bloomfield, Missouri since 1975. He was retired from Arvin Automotive where he had been a fork lift operator.

Surviving are three daughters, Julie Lewis and Karen Ryan both of Bloomfield, Missouri, Janeen Britt of Bell City, Missouri; one step-son, Jack Beckwith of Ormond Beach, Florida; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, John Jones of Dexter, Missouri; six sisters, Jerry Davis and Barbara Coleman both of Dexter, Missouri, Jeanette McAnulty of Memphis, Tennessee, Marty Palmer of Lecanto, Florida, Anita Baldwin of Knob Noster, Missouri, Peggy Carson of Hillsboro, Missouri, and Doris Sacca of Las Vegas, Nevada. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Jones.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 16, 2011, from 9 until 11 a.m., at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
