Jane Alice Bennett, 85, of East Prairie, MO passed peacefully to be with our Heavenly Father on the morning of October 27, 2024. Jane was a life-long resident of Mississippi County.
Born July 1, 1939, at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO to Norwood and Hazel Haney, Jane graduated from Diehlstadt High School in 1957. On July 31, 1961, she married Teddy Bennett who preceded her in death on January 19, 2005.
Jane worked for decades in factories once common in Southeast Missouri. In her later years, she worked in retail and in childcare at Susanna Wesley Learning Center in East Prairie. At this job she was in contact with generations of children and their families and affected them in such positive ways that many of those children, now adults, routinely comment of their fond memories of Miss Jane. Jane’s last job, at which she worked full-time through October of 2022, was for VNA. This job afforded her the opportunity to again show her true self as she provided aid to those who most needed her heartfelt compassion.
Jane is survived by son, Sam and daughters-in-law, Lisa and Lacretia, granddaughters Lindley and Brittan, grandsons, Corey and Cody, great grandsons Taylor Boone and Miles and friends and acquaintances whose numbers are legion.
In addition to Hazel, Norwood and Teddy, also preceding her in death are brothers, Edgar, Edward and James (Bubby) Haney, daughter, Tammy Jane and son, Roy Lee.
Visitation will be held Friday November 1, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Elm Street Baptist Church in Charleston, Missouri.
