Mina Ellen Voss, daughter of the late Clyde Unger and Eula Bland Unger, was born on February 10, 1938, in Swinton, Missouri, and departed this life on November 24, 2023, surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 85 years.
Mrs. Voss was a member of First General Baptist Church in Dexter, Missouri, and a resident of Dexter. In the summer of 1965, Mina started the Head Start program in Dexter, she was a teacher with Head Start until she retired in May of 2009. Mina was also a foster parent, had worked at the Children’s Home in Bloomfield, and for Town and Country in Dexter.
Mina had a heart for giving to others and had several ministries in the community; she managed the cupcake ministry, delivering over 500 cupcakes monthly, she prepared baskets for families in need, and each school year she provided backpacks to children in need. If someone was in need, she found a way to meet their needs.
She is survived by her son, Jamie Schaefer of Wappapello, Missouri; by three daughters, Kimberly Clark and husband Kerry of Dexter, Missouri, Donna Tilley of Bloomfield, Missouri, and Jan Davis of Dexter, Missouri; by her brother, Bill Unger of Miner, Missouri; by three sisters, Jo Kearnes of Wooster, Ohio, Kay Anderson of Bloomfield, Missouri, and Marilyn Anderson of Dexter, Missouri; and by four grandchildren, Adam Clark, Jeff Voss (Connie), Hobie Voss, and Heather Jarrell, and six great-grandchildren, Essabella Voss, Coleridge Voss, Symphony Jarrell, Melody Jarrell, Madisyn Voss, and Mason Dolan.
Other than by her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Butch Voss, by her brother, Gary Unger, and by her sister, Sue Hoskins.
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. C. Neal Fain officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
