In Memory of Betty Sue Garner Mayer

Betty Sue Garner Mayer, daughter of the late Morton LeBeau and Carrie Gray LeBeau was born on August 24, 1942, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and departed this life on November 26, 2023, at her residence in Dexter at the age of 81.


Betty was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Dexter. She had worked for what was formerly known as the Dexter Memorial Hospital as the administrative secretary. She taught piano and was the full-time pianist for the First Christian Church in Dexter and later played the organ for the First Christian Church’s in Poplar Bluff and Sikeston. Her life centered around her family, kids, and grandchildren. She was always doing and caring for others.


She was first united in marriage to Bill Garner on May 20, 1962, in Dexter, Missouri. Mr. Garner preceded her in death on April 2, 2009. On February 18, 2012, she was then married to Bob Mayer. Mr. Mayer preceded her in death on May 19, 2020.


She is survived by three daughters, Kaye Holder and husband Tim of Dexter, Missouri, Penny DuPerier of Perryville, Missouri and Ginger Cobb and husband Lonnie of Dexter, Missouri; by her brother, Phil LeBeau and wife Rita of Dexter, Missouri; by her grandchildren, Kristin Holder, Kelsey Holder, Zachary DuPerier and wife Madeline, William DuPerier, Megan DuPerier and husband Kristian Troen, Abigail Cobb Hicks and husband Ryan, Erika Cobb, Rachel Cobb, and Andrew Garner; by her great-grandchild, Freya Maeve DuPerier Troen; and by her special friend and caregiver, Eileen Robins of Advance, Missouri.


Other than by her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Garner; and her sister Rose Ellen Harper.


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. A grave-side service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at the Armstead Dowdy cemetery in rural Dexter, Missouri with Bobby Garner officiating.
