Marilynn Smith, 92, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 9, 2023, in Jacksonville, NC. She was born August 24, 1930, in Sikeston, MO. Marilynn was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Marilynn grew up in Essex, MO. She met the love of her life, Marvin, while working together at the Dexter Shoe Factory in Dexter, MO. Marilynn enjoyed working at K-Mart and Target while she and Marvin raised their family. Following retirement, they settled in Dexter, MO in a home that she and Marvin built together (literally!) Marilynn was known for her “green thumb” and absolutely loved to garden. She enjoyed sewing, going to church, shopping, and going out to eat. After moving to NC in 2018, she became a member of Living Hope Community Church where she met many new friends. Above all, Marilynn loved spending time with her family and friends.
Marilynn was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, son Michael of MO, grandson Keith of NC, as well as many siblings and extended family members.
Marilynn is survived by her sisters Ronnie and Elizabeth of MO; children Ken (Becky) of NC and Steve (Cindy) of OK, and Kathy (Mike) of SC; grandchildren Chris (Adrienna) and Jenny of MO, Kevin (Michelle) of NC, Erin (Christopher) of MI, Meghan (Andrew) of FL, Kaitlin (Graham) of GA, Danny (Merissa) of OK, and Jessie of MO; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Marilynn’s memory will be forever carried on by those who knew and loved her.
Marilynn’s final resting place will be in Dexter, Missouri. Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Neil Durner officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
