In Memory of Mark Lewis Akin

Mark Lewis Akin of Dexter, Missouri, son of the late Lewis William Akin and Penny Gay (Bays) Akin was born on December 2, 1973, in Flint, Michigan, and  passed from this life on July 3, 2023, at Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 49.


Mark had lived in Southeast Missouri most all of his life.  He enjoyed working on cars and trucks as a mechanic, deeply listening to music, liked to talk and let you know his opinions, and he never met a stranger. He truly enjoyed spending time with family especially spoiling his grandchildren.  


Mark is survived by his mother of the home; three sons, Dillion Akin of Springfield, Missouri; Ryan Barker of Dexter Missouri, and Anthony Reffert Akin of Michigan; two daughters, Cierra Phillips of Essex, Missouri, and Austin Deason of Parma, Missouri; six grandchildren; one brother, Mike Akin of Dexter, Missouri; one sister,  Angie Charles of Bernie, Missouri; a close personal friend, John Malone; as well as a host of family and friends.


He was preceded in death by his father;  and his stepdad, Marvin Leon Stewart.


A Visitation service will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service to follow with Pastor Ray Rowland officiating at the Watkins And Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter, Missouri.

In Memory of Mary Elizabeth Suiter

Mary Elizabeth Suiter of Parma, Missouri, daughter of the late George Melvin and Irene (Baxter) Suiter was born December 1, 1968, in Detroit, Michigan, and passed from this life on July 7, 2023, at her home, at the age of 54.


 Mary has lived in the Southeast Missouri area for the most part of her life. She was of the Baptist Faith.


Mary had many interests in her life like looking at nature, camping, hiking, boardwalk trails, liked to talk but mainly loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandson.


 She is survived by one son, Daniel (Katie) Mims of Risco, Missouri; one brother, George Edward Suiter of Parma, Missouri; two sisters, Tammy Martin of Parma, Missouri and Cindy Payne of Malden, Missouri; one grandson and one granddaughter on the way; her lifelong companion and friend Tim Mims as well as  a host of family and friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Mike Suiter.


Visitation service will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, with service to follow at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter, Missouri, with Pastor Mark McDowell of Risco Missouri officiating with Watkins and Sons of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of Louis Ogelvie Sr.

Louis Ogelvie Sr., son of the late Lorn Ogelvie and Pernie Crain Ogelvie was born on September 12, 1942, in Bernie, Missouri and departed this life on July 8, 2023, in Bernie, Missouri at the age of 80.


Mr. Ogelvie was a veteran of the United States National Guard and was a member and Deacon at Sugar Tree General Baptist Church. He had also served as a board member of the Broseley Sr Center. He enjoyed hunting and camping and loved to ride his motorcycle.


He was united in marriage to Janet Lee Whitehead on September 19, 1964, in Flint, Michigan. Mrs. Ogelvie preceded him in death on July 16, 2022.


He is survived by one son, Louis Ogelvie Jr and wife Jennifer of Broseley, Missouri; by three daughters, Janet Layton and husband Donnie of Dexter, Missouri, Linda Fitzpatrick and husband Steve of Bernie, Missouri, and Tammy Ogelvie of Bernie, Missouri; by two brothers, Don Ogelvie of Lake Village, Arkansas and Joe Ogelvie of Dexter, Missouri; by eleven grandchildren, Sandra Ogelvie, Seth Ogelvie, Gracie Ogelvie, Suzanna Ogelvie, Rebecca Ogelvie, Samantha Ogelvie, Erica Conner and her companion Nicholas Hufford, Alex Fitzpatrick, Tyler Layton and wife Victoria, Whitney Lane and companion Caleb Dormer, and Michael Layton; and by eight great-grandchildren, Christian Lane, Harper Mason, Calvin Lane, Grayson Lane, Amelia Dormer, Bodhi Mikel Hufford, Logan Layton and Tatum Layton.


Other than by his wife and parents he was preceded in death by one son, Michael Louis Ogelvie; and by one sister, Mary Clubb.


Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Gargus officiating. Interment will follow in the Smith Stevenson Cemetery.

Margie Ann Anthony, daughter of the late Hugh Bledsoe and Addie Clayton Bledsoe, was born on June 20, 1938, in Marmaduke, Arkansas, and departed this life on July 8, 2023, at Crowley Ridge Care Center, in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 85 years.


Mrs. Anthony was a homemaker and a resident of Dexter. She enjoyed keeping up with her children and grandchildren.


On October 18, 1957, in Geneva, Illinois, she was united in marriage to Rex Anthony Jr. Mr. Anthony preceded her in death on June 13, 1993.


She is survived by three sons, Rick Anthony and wife Connie of Dexter, Missouri, Tommy Anthony and wife Tonya of Wappapello, Missouri, and Robby Anthony of Bloomfield, Missouri; by two daughters, Cathy Killian and husband Frank of Dexter, Missouri, and Barbara Jarrell and husband Jeff of Dexter, Missouri; and by seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.


Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Timmy Anthony; by five brothers, Robie Bledsoe, Remble Bledsoe, Merle Bledsoe, Earl Bledsoe, and J.W. Bledsoe; by two sisters, Betty Jo Maddox, and Rhoda White; and by two grandchildren.


Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

In Memory of Velva Foyle

Velva Foyle, daughter of Doris Killian Nelson of Dexter, Missouri, and the late Bill Foyle, was born on April 30, 1969, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and departed this life on July 5, 2023, at her residence in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 54 years.


As a Certified Nurse's Assistant and Certified Medical Technician, Velva spent the majority of her life caring for others in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and as an in-home caregiver for professional organizations. Most recently, she worked as an in-home private care provider. She was known for her big heart and kind and generous spirit. In her off time, she was always tinkering and repairing just about anything with wheels and a motor. She loved spending time with family and friends. She was also a gifted guitarist and songwriter.


In addition to her mother, she is survived by three sisters, Darla Young (Eric) of Hamilton, Ontario, Marietta Obergoenner (David) of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Charlotte Snyder (Ed) of Texas; by two step-sisters, Joann Lloyd of Arkansas and Susan Jarrell of St. Louis, Missouri; by her step-brother, Danny Nelson (Donna) of Bloomfield, Missouri; by nieces and nephews, Justin Christman (Lynne) of Paris, Ontario, Jerimy Obergoenner (Lucia) of Jackson, Missouri, and Matthew Reeves of Texas; Jennifer McGarrah (Cecil) of Heavener, Oklahoma, Whitney Payne (Tyler) of St. Peters, Missouri, Jill Watkins (David) of Jackson, Missouri, Christal Thomas (Matthew) of O'Fallon, Missouri, Robert Christian of Dexter, Missouri, Don Christian (FredaMae) of Jackson, Missouri, Ladawn Crowe of McClure, Illinois, Shawn Lloyd of Dexter, Missouri, and Michael Lloyd of Arkansas; by great nieces and nephews, Dayla McGarrah of Heavener, Oklahoma, Raelyn McGarrah of Heavener, Oklahoma, Logan Christman and Georgia Christman of Paris, Ontario, and Tucker Payne of St. Peters, Missouri, and; by two special friends, Julie Jackson of Dexter, Missouri (and God-children Jacob Reeves, John Reeves and Jessica Reeves Crockett), and Robert Holt of Bloomfield, Missouri; and by many other great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


Along with her father, she was preceded in death by her step-father, William Nelson; by two brothers, David Foyle, and Dwane Allan Owens; by her grandfather, Berninard Killian, and by her grandmothers, Marjorie Cox and Virginia Foyle.


She knew her request for no viewing or memorial service would upset many, but she was adamant in this. She asked that you simply honor her memory with acts of kindness to others with no motive or expectations of reciprocation from the recipients. You may also make donations in her memory to Southeast Health Foundation (Hospice Grace Fund), the American Cancer Society and/or The Missouri Mental Health Counselors' Association."
