Dexter Fire Chief and EMA Director, Don Seymore, Offers Chainsaw Crews Information

Dexter, MO - Don Seymore, Dexter Fire Chief and EMA Director for the city of Dexter has three chainsaw crews working in the area to help with tornado damage.

These three crews will be contacting homeowners to assist them with tree cutting and moving the trees to the edge of the road or alley.  The organizations will be wearing their origination shirts with their name badges.

They are:

1. Team Rubicon

2. Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief

3. Crossroad Fellowship List

"Please remember we will be experiencing scams in the area and want you to pay for service which they may not provide," commented Seymore. "These chainsaw groups listed are all voluntary and very reputable.  They are here to help the citizens of Dexter."

The Dexter City EOC is still in operation at the Direction of Fire Chief Don Seymore.

Sparklight Helping People with Service Disrupted by Tornado, Local Numbers to Call for Assistance

Dexter, MO -The local Sparklight office has set up two numbers to call 573-614-7825 or 573-614-7829.  These numbers are used for those who have been affected by the EF2 Tornado only.

There is also temporary Wifi hotspot service set up at Pavilion #2 in West Park.  No password is required.

Roughly 1,000 customers experienced some type of disruption after the EF2 tornado ripped through part of Dexter on Saturday evening around 8:32 p.m.  About 200 customers are still without service, but some of those customers may also not have electricity yet.

Tyson Foods Recalling 4,500 Tons of Chicken

Dexter, MO - Tyson Foods in Dexter is recalling almost 4,500 tons of ready-to-eat chicken products after find listeria bacteria according federal officials on Thursday.

Listeriosis is a serious infection primarily affecting older adults, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. It causes fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. 

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced the recall a month after two consumers reported falling ill with listeriosis.  Further investigation revealed one death besides the these two cases.  It was traced to pre-cooked chicken produced at the Dexter based Tyson Foods according to a statement from the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The recall involves three dozen products containing pre-cooked chicken.  The recalled products bear establishment number "EST. P-7089" on the product bag or inside the USDA mark of inspection.  The chicken was shipped nationwide to retailers and institutions, including hospitals, nursing facilities, restaurants, schools, and military locations.
