In Memory of Leon Virgil Young

Leon Virgil Young, son of the late Howard Glen Young and Genevieve Marler Young, was born on April 22, 1938 in Campbell, Missouri, and departed this life on March 7, 2021 at his residence in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 82 years.

Mr. Young was a former small engine mechanic for Rice Hardware and he had also worked for Paramount Headwear and Morgan Furniture. He was a member of the Dexter Evangelical Free Church and the Dexter Masonic Lodge.

On April 24, 1965, in Dexter, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Virginia Staggs. Mrs. Young survives of their home in Dexter.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by two brothers, Cleatus Young and wife Frankie of Etta, Mississippi and Howard Byron Young and wife Maxine of Piggott, Arkansas; by nine sisters, Nadine Lemarr of Campbell, Missouri, Glenda Cates and husband Lewis of Clarkton, Missouri, Mildred Brown and husband Kenny of Greenville, Missouri, Frela Wilson and husband Sam of Yellville, Arkansas, Wanda Vangilder and husband Dennis of Yellville, Arkansas, Phyllis Dye and husband Kelly of Malden, Missouri, Catherine Clement and husband LeRoy of California, Missouri, Melba Clubb and husband Tom of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Debbie Johnson and husband Henry “Bobo” of Clarkton, Missouri; by his mother-in-law, Vera Staggs of Dexter, Missouri; and by his sister-in law, Wilma Jean Staggs of Dexter, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Genevieve Young; by two brothers, Leslie Young and Louis Young; by his father-in-law, Lloyd Staggs; and by his brother-in-law, Harold Staggs.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Greg Stevens officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
