In Memory of John Reeder Rushing

John Reeder Rushing, son of the late John Rushing and Vinie Mae Ray Rushing, was born on May 25, 1928 in Senath, Missouri, and departed this life on September 23, 2020 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 92 years.

Mr. Rushing was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II.   He was a former station agent for the St. Louis Southwestern Railroad.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bernie, Missouri and the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge.  He enjoyed fishing and watching the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Miller on December 24, 1966 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.  Mrs. Rushing survives at their home in Jackson, Missouri.

In addition to his wife Patricia, he is survived by three daughters, Dollie Nell Hafer of Lake City, Arkansas, Jacki Fleming and husband Wes of Summerville, South Carolina, and Jennifer Harris and husband Glen of Benton, Kentucky; by his sister, Sue Bogadi of Southaven, Mississippi; and by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, Johnny Rushing Clayton and James Mitchell Rushing; by his brother Robert Rushing; and by his two sisters, Mildred Bost and Dollie Earl.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie on Monday, September 28, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. 

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gary Gilbert officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with full military honors. 

The Rushing family requests that everyone wear face coverings.

Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie is in charge of all arrangements.
