John L. Pettig of Dexter, son of the late Lawrence Edward and Zelma Mae Lockhart Pettig, was born in Lincoln County, Missouri on August 23, 1934, and passed away at the Dexter Nursing Center in Dexter on January 28, 2018, at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 5 days.

He had lived in Dexter the past twenty years. He had worked as a security guard and was a veteran of the U. S. Army.

Surviving are one brother, Jerry Pettig of Troy, Missouri; one sister, Beverly Ruff of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and one grandchild. Other relatives and many friends also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Wyatt Pettig and a daughter, Allie Darlene Pettig

Friends may call on Friday, February 2, 2018, after 1:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter until time for the services at 3:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Interment will be in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with full Military Honors. Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
