Stoddard County, Missouri - The 2016 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday will be the weekend of August 5th - 7th, but not all counties and cities are participating.
Both the cities of Dexter and Bernie will participate in this year's event, while Bloomfield will not. Stoddard County will not be participating so you will see a one-cent county sales tax on your receipt if you buy local. Shoppers in Dexter will not be charged the 1.875% city sales tax.
By state law, the sales tax holiday begins on the first Friday in August and continues through Sunday. This year it will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and run through Sunday, August 7th.
During this time the Missouri state sales tax of 4.225% will not be assessed on certain purchases, including school supplies, some clothing, and personal computers. Clothing that does not have a value of more than $100 and will include footwear. School supplies not to exceed $50 per purchase that are used in standard classrooms. Personal computers that do not cost more than $3,500 and computer software that is considered a school supply and is less than $350 will be tax free. No personal accessories such as jewelry, headphones, furniture or bedding will not be tax free.
If in doubt call the store you plan to shop and ask what taxes they will be charging.

Dexter Public School students will head back to school on Thursday, August 11th with a full day of classes with the Kindergarten Class starting on Friday, August 12th. Back-to-School Registration Day will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Bearcat Event Center.

2 boxes of crayons (24 pack)
1 ruler with inches and centimeters
2 large boxes of tissues
1 backpack
1 pair of sharp point Fiskars scissors
1 package of 24 No. 2 pencils (wooden only)
1 package of pencil end erasers
1 large package of bleach free wipes
1 glue (4 oz. liquid)
1 pink block eraser
4 dry erase markers, black
1 non-locking school box plastic OR large pencil pouch
2 glue sticks
2 highlighters
1 colored pen of any color
1 dry eraser or black sock

Student photos will also be taken on Registration Day; however you do not have to purchase portrait packages on that day. Don’t worry if your photo isn’t perfect a picture re-take day will be later in the school year.

Dexter, Missouri - Have you noticed the new marquee on the corner of Grant Street and One Mile Road next to Southwest Elementary School? The sign was recently installed and will be up and running soon.
This marquee was included with the purchase of the new Football Scoreboard which was made possible from the following sponsors: Gill Group, Bank of Advance, Faurecia, First Midwest Bank, SoutheastHEALTH of Stoddard County, Young Real Estate LLC, Legacy, One Mile Smile, State Farm Insurance, Chris Brannan, Williams Moving Company, Dexter Family Eye Care and On The Go.
The LED marquee will be used to broadcast district wide information to the public to hopefully have more involvement in school functions and activities.
"I feel we do an excellent job of broadcasting what is going on in our schools but this will be another avenue of communication and also serve as a reminder to the numerous parents and community members who travel this intersection daily," according to Mitch Wood, Dexter Public School Superintendent.
