
Bernie, Missouri - The Mule Barn was full of love and compassion on Friday evening as they honored one of their own, Shawn Green.
“This was an emotional night for everyone,” commented Bernie boys basketball coach Brad Botsch. “Our players really felt the emotion from the ceremony for Shawn and it carried over to the floor for us. Shawn was an incredible player and is even a better person and I am glad our kids could find a way to win for him tonight.”
Win they did and in a big way. The Mules defeated the Puxico Indians 75-57.
Alex Whitehead earned an impressive team-high 27 points for the Mules including 2 treys.
Gavin Brown recorded 18 points on 6 baskets and 6 from the charity stripe.
Nate Dillinger contributed 12 points. Jayce Burk tallied three 3-pointers.
“Alex Whitehead and Gavin Brown really stepped up for us tonight,” stated Botsch. “Gavin had 14 rebounds and 16 points. Alex had 11 rebounds and 26 points. We really needed the boost from those guys and it was great to see them step up for us. Everyone contributed tonight and our effort was better than it has been.”
Puxico’s Levi Woods hit the basket 14 times including two 3-pointers and made three of six free throws for a game-high 33 points.

Bernie (4-12) will be back in action in the SCAA Tournament on Monday, January 25th when they take on rivalry the Dexter Bearcats at 8:30 p.m. in the Bearcat Event Center.

Puxico, Missouri - The Dexter Bearcats braved the weather and coasted to a 70-36 win over the Puxico Indians.
Dexter led 14-5 at the end of the first quarter and 36 – 7 at the half.
“Our ability to defend set the tone for game against Puxico,” stated Dexter boys basketball coach Josh Dowdy. “I believe our transition offense is also improving. We were able to make some nice outlet passes and score out in front of their defense.
The Bearcats recorded double digits for each of the four periods.
Ethan Flowers had a tremendous night against the Indians recording a game-high 24 points. He hit six 3-pointers.
Gabe Jackson tallied 13 points. Jacob Pedigo contributed 12 points. Tyler Heil and Ryan Mayo each added a trey for Dexter.
“It’s always nice to get a win on the road in our conference,” Dowdy said. “For the second consecutive game we came out and got stops to start the game.”
Levi Woods paced the Puxico Indians with 16 points including four treys.

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter High School wrestling team celebrated SENIOR Night. Several athletes were honored.
Storm Massey is the son of Allen and Kim Massey.
He has participated in DHS Football as a freshman and sophomore. He has wrestled all four years of high school. He is a 3-time District Medalist and a 3-time State Qualifier.
Storm plans to attend the College of the Ozarks and major in Nursing.

Bernie, Mules - The 2016 Bernie Mules 6th grade basketball team's season is already underway, but they stopped long enough to get their group photo taken at a recent game.
These athletes are working hard to learn their sport and have only a few games left this season. Please come out and support them at the Bernie Tournament on Saturday, January 30th when they take on Risco and Clarkton. On January 23rd they travel to Campbell with a game time of 10:00 a.m. On February 1st they play Malden at home at 6:00 p.m. and on February 13th they will participate in the Bell City Tournament.
