Bloomfield Continues Winning Streak Beating Kelly

Bloomfield, Missouri - The future appears bright for the Bloomfield boys basketball program.  The Wildcats continue their impressive winning streak as they improved their record to 4-0 on the season defeating the Kelly Hawks 60-49 at home.

Kelly did not leave without a fight.  They paced the Wildcats in each period, but fell short in the fourth quarter giving the Wildcats a larger margin of points.

“I give a lot of credit to Kelly,” commented Bloomfield head basketball coach Jason Karnes.  “Coach Garnett had his guys ready to play and compete tonight.  We just kind of went through the emotions without a lot of energy.”

“Our margin for error is very small, and we have to make sure we are ready to compete and play as hard as we possibly can every single night,” continued Karnes.  “Facing adversity was good for us tonight, and hopefully we learned from it.”

Noah Vandiver tallied an impressive game-high 19 points for the Wildcats including 1 trey.

Nathan Newell recorded 14 points and sank two 3-pointers for Bloomfield.

Austin Bond also added 14 points for the Wildcats.

Bloomfield's Tyler Battles hit two treys.

Northern Signs With Mineral Area College to Play Golf

Northern Signs With Mineral Area College to Play Golf

Bloomfield, Missouri - Andrew Northern, a senior at Bloomfield High School became the latest athlete to sign a letter of intent to play golf at Mineral Area College in Park Hills, Missouri.  His signing took place on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Bloomfield High School.

“We are happy to have Andrew with our program,” commented Mineral Area Golf Coach Don Huff.  “He is the third kid from this area we have signed.  I think his golf game will get nothing, but better as he grows and matures.  We are anxious to have him as part of our programs.”

Northern has worked very hard over the years to improve his game with the hope of someday playing golf at Mineral Area College.

“I have friends and family from Bloomfield who played golf at MAC and they loved it,” Northern said.  “I have been up to MAC and it’s a good atmosphere.  I have played since I was little, but starting to take it serious when I was a freshman in high school.  Today is really sweet because I have worked hard and have greatly improved my game since I was a freshman.”

Andrew is the son of JoAnne and Travis Westbrook of Bloomfield, Missouri and Scott and Robin Northern of Dexter, Missouri.

Northern’s high school golf career highlights include winning the Class 1, District 1 tournament last year and advancing to the Class 1 State Golf tournament.  He has averaged a +5 during his junior season on 9 holes.

Northern received golf awards at Bloomfield for the lowest individual scoring average and for the most improved. He will compete in his final high school season in the spring of 2016.

“Andrew is also my stepson, so I have been with him since he was in the second grade,” stated Bloomfield Golf Coach Travis Westbrook.  “He really started getting serious about golf the last two years.  We took him to Paducah for lessons with a PGA pro and he has been spending a great deal of time at the course hitting balls.  He has to then go pick up the balls because we don’t have a range with a machine that goes and does that so you know how dedicated he is to do all that.  Everyday if it’s nice enough he is out on the course practicing.  I am glad to see his hard work has paid off.”

Northern is currently coached by his Bloomfield High School golf coach Travis Westbrook and Nick Mills, PGA Golf Professional at the Golf Complex in Paducah, KY

Huff went on to say that MAC is the only junior college in Missouri that has golf.  “We are currently ranked #13 in one of the polls and finished 11th last year at our national tournament.  The last two years our program has been recognized as an All-Academic Team as well, and we are proud of that.”

Andrew is ranked in the top 10 of his class and has received an academic letter all four years at Bloomfield High School.  He is also a member of the Beta Club, FBLA, Student Council, Choir and is President of the Pep Club.

Northern plans on seeking a degree in Business Administration.  “I would like to own my own business someday,” Northern said of why he wanted to earn a BSBA degree.
