Jackson, Missouri - T.S. Hill Middle School made history on Tuesday evening at the Jackson Cross Country Meet. Fourteen members of the middle school's first ever Cross Country team competed for medals.
Brett Pollock came in 2nd with a time of 10:06 in the one and a half mile course. He is the son of Dan and Monta Pollock.
"It was good to win," commented Pollock. "I thought I was farther back maybe 15th or so. Didn't know I was in 2nd!"
Madelyn Haynes finished 5th at the Jackson meeting earning herself a medal. She is the daughter of David and Carrie Haynes.
"I am the only girl on the Cross Country team," Haynes said after being prompted by Ellinghouse. "It felt good to win a medal and be the first girl to win."
Andrew Ellinghouse is the son of Dave and Amy Ellinghouse and earned a medal for 10th place.
"I thought I was way back too and didn't know I was in 10th until I finished the meet," stated Ellinghouse. "I was glad to beat some of the Jackson kids and the Cape kids. They always place well and I just wanted to beat them."
"Congratulations to Brett, Andrew, and Madelyn for earning their first medal at our first ever cross country competition," stated head cross country coach Leonard Morse. "We traveled to the Jackson Invitational on Tuesday."
"Brett finished 2nd and Andrew finished 10th in the seventh grade boys' race. Madelyn finished 5th in the seventh grade girls' race," continued Morse.
The DMS Bearcats will travel to Arcadia Valley Invitational in Ironton on Saturday. The boys run at 9:15 a.m. and the girls run at 9:35 a.m. These athletes work hard and have a long trip as they get on the bus at 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning. That's true dedication to the sport!
