Lady Cats Secure Win Over Jackson

Dexter, Missouri - The Lady Cats of Dexter secured their second win of the season over Jackson 25-16, 25-21 on Thursday evening at the Bearcat Event Center.

Bailee Williams hit a ball over the next that could not be returned by any Lady Indian player securing their win in the second set.

“We don’t have time to call those,” commented Dexter’s head coach Carmen Morgan of Williams’ game=ending play.  “She just sees it and does it.  Bailee has a sense for what she can do when.  She’s not afraid to do anything.  She’s a very tenacious player.”

“We dug ourselves a little whole at the first of the match and came from behind and it’s always good for your team to know they can do that,” Morgan stated.  “The second game we were out in front and then we hit a lull and stayed at 12 for a long time.  We lost our concentration and focus a little.  We stopped talking and the momentum definitely shifted, and in this game it was shift quickly.  We called timeout and I said ‘we’ve got to get a pass to the setter and we’ve got to put the ball down.’  After that we got a pass and Krysten Garrison went up and put one on the spiking line, which will stop the momentum sometime.”

Garrison tallied six of her eight team-high kills in the second set.  Hannah Thurmon added five kills.  Both Thurmon and Garrison collected a pair of blocks.

Bailee Williams recorded a team-high seven assists.  Garrison and Julia Hahn recorded five assists.

Brittany Brown led the Lady Cats with a team-high nine digs.  Garrison and Williams added seven digs each and Hahn recorded six digs.

“We moved our block,” Morgan said of adjusting to Jackson’s hitting. ”We were standing behind our block some so our defense needed to get away because you don’t want to ever be behind your block.  We got away from that.”

“What I told the girls is ‘we got some blocks, but blocking is still something we have got to work on and get batter at’, continued Morgan.  “We are not closing our block like we need to.  Once we start closing that block it is going to make a big difference because we will get some blocks and get some hands on some blocks.  Our goal is for our blockers to get ahead on every ball so it slows it down for the defense.”

“Jackson is a good team,” Morgan said.  “They dug up some balls, hit some balls and got to some balls.  They are a very good team and it was good for us to get a win over them.”

The Lady Cats (2-0) will return to action on Monday, August 31st when they travel to Sikeston.  Game time 6:00 p.m.
