Malden, Missouri – The Dexter varsity baseball team suffered an 18-7 loss in five innings at Malden on Tuesday afternoon.
The Green Wave scored a run in both the first and second innings before earning six runs in the bottom of the third. The fourth inning was all Green Wave earning them 10 runs and securing the win.
Dexter scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning cutting the deficit to 8-2.
Chandler Young pitched the first 2 1/3 innings for the Bearcats. Garrett Keathley relieved Young. Jacob Pedigo and Blake Horton both pitched in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Horton had a RBI double in the fourth inning as well while Pedigo drove home a running from third in the fourth inning and his second RBI in the fifth inning.
Malden recorded 10 runs in the 4th finishing with 18 points.
Dexter (1-1) will host Kennett on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.

Dexter, Missouri – The Lady Cats Softball team will be comprised of 16 players and under first year head coach Starla Pulley. Weather permitting they open their season at home on Tuesday, March 24th against Bloomfield.
Dexter placed second at Districts last year and lost three seniors.
They are slated to compete in Class 1, District 3 with Bloomfield, Charleston, Malden, Risco, and Bernie this year. Dexter will also host the annual Swing Pink Tournament on April 11th.Richland High School will host the SCAA Tournament this year on April 20th and 21st.
On the roster for the Lady Cats are senior Dakota Silliman, juniors Anthony McKenzie, Brittany Brown, Carey Kaylee, Kirsten Durrow, Halley Sielert, Olivia Sitzes, Amber Spence, and Alexis Tankersley; sophomores Haley Cornett, Cheyenne Mosby, Emily Mouser, and Morgan Ross; and freshmen Victoria Beaird, Hannah Gibson, and Jacey Pyles.

Doniphan, Missouri – In their season opener, the Dexter Bearcats limited Doniphan to just two hits securing their first victory of the season.
Dexter recorded 7 hits, one error and 5 runs. Doniphan had two hits, 3 errors and no runs.
“I thought we played well considering our first time on the field,” stated Dexter’s head baseball coach Brian Becker. “Jason Mattison and Austin Aldridge did a great job on the mound for us. We played excellent defense behind them as well.”
Dexter will host state-ranked Greenville on Monday at 4:00 p.m. in their home opener.
Dexter also has a tough schedule this week playing at home on Monday, at Malden on Tuesday, at home against Kennett on Wednesday, and two games on Saturday at Oran against Oran and Valle Catholic. Should be a great week for Bearcat Baseball!!

"I was extremely proud of every player on the team Saturday," commented Middle School Volleyball Coach Melissa Hahn. "Every player contributed to get us to the championship game!"
The little Lady Cats played the Doniphan Lady Dons first and won 25-11, 25-7. The second game was against the Advance Lady Hornets defeating them 26-24, 25-15. The first set was extremely close, but they managed to pull it out for the win.
Their third game was against the Bloomfield Lady Wildcats and they won 26-6, 25-8 putting them in the first pool with first place. Advance 2nd, Bloomfield 3rd and Doniphan 4th. They went on to the Gold bracket.
Poplar Bluff defeated Advance in two sets and Dexter beat Zalma 25-8, 25-10 to put them in the Championship game against Poplar Bluff!
"Poplar Bluff has a lot of talent and it took a total team effort to get their championship victory," continued Hahn. "The first place game went three sets and was very exciting from start to finish. The Poplar Bluff Classic 7th Grade Volleyball Tournament is always a fund day and my 8th grade team always goes to cheer and support the 7th grade team."
The Lady 'Cats won the first set 25-20 to Poplar Bluff and then lost the second set 22-25, but they prevailed winning the third set 25-14!
The Bloomfield Wildcats won the silver bracket against Doniphan.
"Poplar Bluff will be coming to the Bearcat Event Center on April 2nd and I anticipate both the 7th and 8th grade games to be real battles," stated Hahn. "Last year during the tournament we also went three sets with Poplar Bluff in the finals, so the 8th grade game will also be one to watch! They are coached by Amanda Lance. She happens to be my niece so it makes for a fun and spirited rivalry!"
The 7th grade Lady Cats are now 7-0 on the season and will be back in action on Monday evening when they travel to Scott City. game time is 6:00 p.m.

Dexter, Missouri – The Dexter Track season opens on Tuesday, March 24th under the leadership of a new head coach, Kim Waldner.
Coach Waldner is the Physical Education teacher at Central Elementary and has been teaching for 15 years.Something also new for Dexter this year is the addition of a fifth class in track and field.
“Our District now has five classes,” commented Coach Waldner. “We are no longer with Sikeston or Notre Dame and that’s a good thing for Dexter.”
"I expect the girls track team to place at Districts if not win it," continued Waldner. "The boys team is younger, but with lots of potential and I think they will do well this season."
The District Track and Field meet will be held at Park Hills Central this year and will feature St. Pius of Festus, Park Hills, Kennett, Herculaneum, Grandview, Fredericktown, New Madrid County Central, Bishop DuBourg, Bayless, Arcadia Valley, and Dexter.
There are over 50 athletes who make up the Bearcat Track and Field team for the 2015 season.
Dexter’s only home track meet will be Thursday, April 23rd at 4:00 p.m.
The SEMO Conference is slated for Monday, May 4th at Charleston.
