Local Schools Participate in Reading Week and National Education Week

Dexter, Missouri – Reading Week and National Education Week were observed at Dexter’s elementary buildings this week.  Mayor Joe Weber was present at Central Elementary to officially mark the occasion.

The week is designated for students and teachers to reaffirm their commitment to their public schools and to recognize the role that learning plays in the development of a strong community.

Reading Week Coordinators Carrie Haynes from Southwest Elementary and April Aldridge from Central Elementary are pictures with the Mayor and student representatives from each classroom at Central.

Students participated in several activities throughout the week including dressing up like their favorite Dr. Seuss character to Pajama Day.  Bookmarks, headbands, pencils, and temporary tattoos were distributed on certain days.

Monday was "One Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" Day - wear red or blue

Tuesday was Favorite Character Day - dress as favorite Dr. Seuss character

Wednesday was  "The Cat in the Hat" Day - wear stripes

Thursday was "Oh The Place You'll Go" Day - wear pajamas

Friday was "Horton Hears a Who" Day - wear crazy hair
