Wilbert Gisi

Wilbert Gisi

Wilbert “Fib” Gisi, son of the late Edmond and Iva Morrison Gisi was born on July 20, 1924 in Essex and passed away on August 10, 2014 at Southeast Health of Stoddard County at the age of 90.

Mr. Gisi was a member of the Hopewell General Baptist Church and a farmer.  He will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  Mr. and Mrs. Gisi have enjoyed watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in their various activities over the last several years.

On October 19, 1945 he was united in marriage to Nina Pauline Warren in Arkansas.  He is survived by Mrs. Gisi who resides in their home in Essex.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Ronald (Becky) Gisi of Bloomfield, Vicki (James) Vaughn of Dexter and Sherry (Harold) Freeman of Dexter;  by one sister, Jo Hice of Dexter;  by one sister in law, Lela Mae Gisi;  by four grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer (Lee) Barnes of Dexter, Emily (Ryan) Carpenter of Paragould, Arkansas, Brandon (Christy) Vaughn of Dexter and Jamie Vaughn of Hopkinsville, Kentucky;  and by six great-grandchildren, Lexie Barnes, Lauren Barnes, Cash Carpenter, Carly Ryan Carpenter, Brayden Vaughn and Mabree Vaughn.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles Gisi, Harold Gisi, Raymond Gisi, Glennon Gisi and Eugene Gisi;  and by two sisters, Ethel French and Stella Gisi.

Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, August 11, 2014 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. 

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Tippen officiating. 

Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery.

Bessie Ruth Simpson
Bessie Ruth Simpson is the daughter of the late Fred and Stella (Robinson) Melton, was born on September 28,1920. The eldest of 10 children and finished her life's journey on August 9, 2014, at the age 93 of years 10 months and 12 days.

On July 1, 1938, she married  Charles Lewis Simpson Sr. in Dexter, Missouri. They were married 60 years when God called home her soul mate and best friend.

Mrs. Simpson lived in Dexter and worked at the Elder's Shirt Factory until she and her family moved to Pontiac MI. in 1980. She became a nurse and worked at Sister Kenny's Contagious Hospital until TB & Polo was eradicated. She then worked at Pontiac General Hospital. Later she worked for the Oakland County Children's Center until she retired in 1972. She and her husband, Lewis, then moved back to Dexter and lived there until they moved to Cape Girardeau in 1995.

After moving to Cape Girardeau, Mrs. Simpson volunteered at SFMC, logging over 3000 volunteer hours. She was very active member in her church First Church of The Nazarene, both in Dexter, Mo. and in Cape Girardeau. In later years, she attend Cape First with her daughter.

Surviving are  2 sons Charles L. Simpson Jr. (Sue) of Las Vegas Nevada, and Billy E Simpson (Linda) of  The Villages Florida. 2 daughters Joyce M Oliver (Paul) of Las Vegas Nevada, and Nancy K Johnson (Dan) of Jackson. 20 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. One sister Doris Hoopingarner of Dexter, Mo. & One brother Frank Melton of Millington TN. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles Lewis Simpson Sr. & 1 son Jackie D. Simpson, 5 brothers & 2 sisters.

Friends may call at  Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri, from 1-2:30 p, with services to follow on Tuesday, August 12, 2014.

Interment will be at Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Home  in charge of arrangements.

Memorials maybe made to the Volunteer Department  @ Saint Francis Medical Center or Southeast Missouri Hospice, Cape Girardeau.

Earl Burleson

Earl Burleson, son of the late Amos Burleson and Anna Hill Burleson was born on May 12, 1964 in Bernie, Missouri and departed this life on August 4, 2014 at his residence in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 50 years.

He was united in marriage to Jo Ann Kirkman on December 16, 1993 in Dexter, Missouri. 

Survivors include his wife, Jo Burleson of the home in Dexter; by two sons, Danny and wife Gina Kirkman, and Martin and wife Tina Risse; by two granddaughters, Abby and Lilly Risse; four brothers Glen Burleson, Tommy Burleson, Jim Burleson, and Randy Burleson; also by many other loved ones and friends.

Gravesides services will be conducted on Tuesday August 5, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in the Dexter Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Kirby officiating.

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Gean Finch

Bobby Gean Finch, son of the late Charles Fuson Finch and Eucel Macel Parker Finch, was born on May 12, 1947 in Malden, Missouri, and passed away on August 3, 2014 at SoutheastHEALTH in Cape Girardeau at the age of 67 years.

Mr. Finch was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bernie.  He had worked as a certified electrician at Media Press in Sikeston and was a resident of Bernie. 

On November 22, 1964, he was united in marriage to Verbia Aldrich in Dudley, Missouri.  She survives.

He is also survived by one son, Bobby Eugene Finch of Bloomfield, Missouri; by two daughters, Verbia Lee Parker and Carolyn Ann Longhibler, both of Dexter; by three brothers, Charles Finch of Malden, Joe Finch and Marvin Finch of Dexter; by five grandchildren, Robert Finch, David Saylors, David Finch, Daniel Finch and Bobbi Ann Finch; by seven great-grandchildren; and by his companion, Tresa Davidson of Bernie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ruben Finch , Thomas Finch and Aubrey Lee Finch; and by one sister, Virginia Viola Finch.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Hubert Robinson officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Smith-Stevenson Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri.

Audrey Adams

Audrey Adams was born Feb. 24, 1944, in Ripley County, Mo., to the late Dan and Jessie Tutterow Payne and died July 31, 2014.

She was a member of the Logan Creek General Baptist Church, a registered nurse and retired from what is now Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center after 34 years of service working as a certified critical care nurse for several years.

Mrs. Adams loved to read, enjoyed working in her flower garden, working crossword puzzles and shopping.

She is survived by her husband Delmar (Gene) Adams of the home; one son Tim (Stephanie) Adams of Dexter, Mo.; six grandchildren, Lauren, Jordan, Jade, Taylor, Jake and Austin; two step-granddaughters, Kelsey and Adalyn; six great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren all of Dexter; also surviving are two brothers, Elmer Payne of Doniphan and David Payne of Fairdealing; two sisters, Lois Moore and Annabel Tilliman, and two women who were an important part of her life, Kelly Adams and Candee Adams, mothers of her grandchildren.

In 1992 she was preceded in death by her beloved first born son, Michael. Also preceding her in death are two sisters, Eva Jean Crook and Melva Vandergriff and one brother, Dossie Payne.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug.4, 2014, at the Edwards Funeral Chapel in Doniphan with Bro. Curtis Crowley officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery in Dexter at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2014.

Edwards Funeral Home of Doniphan is in charge of all arrangements.
