The Southwest Elementary Parents as Teachers Organization will be hosting a Book Fair and annual Summer Book Sale on Tuesday June 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Southwest Elementary School on Grant Street in Dexter.

Bell City, Missouri – The Lakeville Masonic Lodge sponsored a bicycle give-away for students in each grade from kindergarten through 6th as a reward for reading.
While the Lakeville Masonic Lodge worked with the school to encourage children to read, each student demonstrated great efforts while working very hard to achieve his or her goal.
Every time a child met a goal, his or her name was placed in a drawing for a bicycle. One child out of each grade was presented with a bicycle for all their hard work.
Zach Hueckel, a 6th grade student, had over 700 accelerated reading points. Way to go Zach!
Students were presented their bicycles at the Bell City Multipurpose Building by Lakeville Masonic Lodge members.

Columbia, Missouri - Musicians in the Dexter Senior High School Band competed recently in the Missouri State Music Contest.
The Missouri State Music Contest is the musical equivalent of an athletic state championship. Student soloists and ensembles qualify to participate in the state contest by first receiving a I rating at district contest.
In the state contest judges rate everything from length, intonation, accuracy of notes, dynamics, interpretation, difficulty - even if the music presented to the judge has been properly numbered. This is serious business and students are graded on the highest of levels by college-level professors and judges.

Missouri - Area high school graduates may be missing valuable opportunities to receive financial aid for summer college classes by neglecting their A+ eligibility, according to officials at Three Rivers College.
“Most eligible students don’t realize that A+ works on summer classes, as well as the fall and spring semesters,” said Chris Adams, Director of Enrollment Services at Three Rivers College. “A+ allows you to get a head start on your education at an extremely low cost.”
To be eligible, students must first complete Missouri’s A+ Schools Program in their high school and submit a final high school transcript stamped with the school’s A+ seal. Qualifying students may receive up to six semesters of tuition and common fees at any participating Missouri community college, area vocational-technical school or state technical school, as long as they are enrolled in an approved program of study. Students may use A+ any time within four years of graduating high school.
A+ funding applies even if a student has used up or is ineligible for other financial aid such as Pell Grants, according to Adams. However, if a student is receiving a Federal Pell Grant, SEOG, or Access Missouri Grant, the Missouri A+ Incentive will pay only the allowable costs that exceed the above grants.
Registration for summer classes continues through May 30, with summer classes beginning on June 2. Registration is also open for Fall classes at all of Three Rivers’ locations. For more information on the A+ program, or on how to register for classes at Three Rivers, call 573-840-9605 or visit .

Cape Girardeau, Missouri – Southeast Missouri State University has named 2,504 students to the Dean’s List for academic achievement during the spring 2014 semester.
Students named to the list earned at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and completed at least 12 degree credit hours during the spring semester.
