Dexter, Missouri – The Lady Bearcats girls’ varsity team hosted the Saxony Lutheran girls’ varsity basketball team Wednesday evening at the Bearcat Event Center. It was a match-up of two of the top teams in southeast Missouri. Dexter 17-3 and Saxony Lutheran 17-4 were expected to have a very close tight game, but it was all Dexter dominating Saxony Lutheran defeating them 76-40.
“Saxony is definitely a really good team,” commented Dexter's head coach Chad. “They are No. 1 in their district and have played some tough teams pretty close this year. I know they played Notre Dame to single digits both times they played them."
Dexter hit double figures in each of the four quarters with a game-high fourth quarter scoring 29 points. The Bearcat’s defense held Saxony Lutheran extremely well. They managed to score only 22 points in the first half. Half-time score 29 – 22.
It was the second half where the Lady ‘Cats opened up with a rigorous scoring tallying 47 points and holding Saxony Lutheran to just 18 points.
"I felt like the second half we really picked up the pressure and got after them and that’s when we started making that huge run,” continued Allen.Hannah Noe #10 was amazing on the court scoring a game-high 27 points for the Bearcats. Noe also hit two 3-pointers,
Alison Jarrell #12 and Erika Cobb #15 tallied 15 points each. Jarrell hit five 3-pointers. Cobb added one. Paige Patterson #22 also was in double figures adding 12 points to the board for Dexter and was 2 for 2 at the charity stripe.
Brianna Mueller #15 was the only Saxony Lutheran player in double figures. She had a team-high 12 points hitting two 3-pointers. Grace Mirly #10 also added a trey.
Dexter is currently ranked third in Class 4. Way to go Bearcats!!
The Lady ‘Cats will be back in action tonight hosting Cape Central Lady Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The Freshman boys basketball team will play at 6:00 p.m.
