Debbie Casey

Debbie Casey, daughter of the late Herschel Wilber Deal and Frances Louise Ashley Deal, was born in Sikeston, Missouri on September 3, 1952, and passed away at the Southeast Health Center of Stoddard County in Dexter, Missouri on September 16, 2013, at the age of 61 years and 13 days.

She had lived in Dexter most of her life and had worked as a cake decorator at Wal-Mart. She was a member of the Lighthouse Christian Center in Dexter. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, and loved to camp.

On May 20, 2002, she was married to Brian Casey in Essex, Missouri.

Surviving are her husband Brian Casey of Dexter; two sons, Tommy Riley and Jerry Riley both of Sikeston; three daughters, Trish Julian and Kathy Chapman both of Dexter, Brandy Finch of Modesto, California; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild and one on the way; one brother, Louis Hurt of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Patricia Scott of St. Louis, Missouri and Nancy Zickefoose of Des Moines, Iowa; her mother in law, Judy Casey of Dexter, and an aunt, Katherine Wethington of Sikeston. Other relatives and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lynn Hurt and Richard Gatlin.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the Lighthouse Christian Center in Dexter, Missouri

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at the Lighthouse Christian Center in Dexter, Missouri with Rev. Tim Russell of Dexter, Missouri officiating.

Interment will be in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.

Melba Ann Cantrell

Melba Ann Cantrell, daughter of the late Howard Earl and Lula Edith Eaton Carpenter, was born in Steele, Missouri on February 1, 1947, and passed away at her home in Washington, Louisiana on September 12, 2013, at the age of 66 years, 7 months and 11 days.

She had lived in Dexter and the surrounding area most of her life and had lived in Washington, Louisiana the past three years.  She had worked at the Daily Statesman and at Hudson Foods and Tyson Foods. She was of the Baptist faith.

On March 3, 1978, she was married to Charles Fate Cantrell in Dexter, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 17, 2002.

Surviving are her companion, Kevin Smart of Washinton, Louisiana; one son, Brandon Cantrell of Dexter; four daughters, Mary Draper, Marsha Conner and Brooke Cantrell all of Paragould, Arkansas, Brittany Smart of Houston, Texas; she helped raise Kierstan and Keyiarra Smart both of Washington, Louisiana; six step children, Christine Cantrell, Jasper and James Dale Cantrell all of Dexter, Bobby Cantrell of Malden, Wayne Cantrell of Leachville, Arkansas, Charles Cantrell of Advance; 24 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; four sisters, Ruth Matney of Dexter, Edith Ishmail of Apache, Oklahoma, Millie Spore of Ruby, Michigan and Vicki Stevenson of Arlington, Texas. Other relatives and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one step daughter, Doris Gibbs; one step-grandson, Sparky Gibbs; two brothers, Earl and Willie Carpenter; and three sisters, Mary Terry, Carolyn Ridge and Minnie Carpenter.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter, Missouri

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 15 , 2013, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri with Rev. Tim Russell of Dexter, Missouri officiating.

Interment will be on Monday, September 16, 2013, at 11:00 AM in the Walker Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.

Martha Nell Irene Hughes

Martha Nell Irene Hughes, daughter of the late Sid and Mary Vera James Hensley, was born in Linden, Tennessee on March 8, 1935, and passed away at the Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston, Missouri on September 11, 2013, at the age of  78 years, 6 months and  2 days.

She had lived in the Morehouse area most of her life.  She was a cook at Morehouse School and a member of the First Oneness Pentecostal Church in Morehouse, Missouri.

On August 16, 1949, she was married to J.W. Hughes in Pigott, Arkansas. He survives in the home.

Surviving are  three daughters, Rhodia Fiddler of Lexington, Tennessee, Margie Ruedrich and Angela Graham both of Sikeston, Missouri; two sons, Russell Hughes of Puxico, Missouri and Paul Hughes of Sikeston, Missouri; nineteen  grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and two sisters, Jo Coffman of Matthews, Missouri and Frankie
Hicks of Sikeston, Missouri .  Other relatives and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one son, John William Hughes, four brothers, and three sisters.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 after 11:00 AM at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 14 , 2013, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri with Rev. John Ruedrich of Scott City, Missouri officiating.

Interment will follow in the Matthews City Cemetery in Matthews, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie McGuire

Marjorie McGuire, daughter of the late Roy “Poss” Meritt and Pauline Barfield Meritt was born on August 2, 1932 in Grayridge and passed away on September 7, 2013 at the Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center in Dexter at the age of 81.

Marjorie went to school in Grayridge.  She worked at the Delta Community Hospital in Sikeston as a nurse’s aid in 1960, and later, Saint Francis Hospital and the Lutheran Home both located in Cape Girardeau.  She had also worked at Motel 6 in Portland, Oregon, Washington State and California as a relief manager. Marjorie was a Foster parent for three years after coming back to Missouri.

She is survived by four sons, Steve and wife Jo, Jim and wife Patty, Charlie and wife Michelle and Eric; by one daughter, Vicki and husband Kenny; by one brother, Tom Meritt; by one sister, Joan Peters; by five grandchildren, Jaime, Michael, Brandy, Kenna and Chris and by eight great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents one daughter, Sharon Marie, preceded her in death.

She departed this life "one tough ole bird" and will be sadly missed by friends, neighbors and family.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will follow at 7:00 P.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel.

Dorlus L. Tucker

Dorlus L. Tucker, daughter of the late Carl Lawrence and Agnes McClard Lawrence, was born on January 25, 1935 at rural Pyletown, Missouri and departed this life on September 5, 2013 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 78 years.

Mrs. Tucker was a member of the Bridge Church of Christ at Pyletown, she worked as camp secretary for Modern Woodmen, volunteered at Stoddard County ARC and was a resident of Dexter.

On April 20, 1962, she was united in marriage to James Edward Tucker at Pyletown.  Mr. Tucker survives of their home.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, James Carl Tucker and wife Leslie of Dexter, Stephen Paul Tucker of Dexter and Richard Dale Tucker and wife Christi of Dexter; by two grandchildren, Kristi Burns and Jamie DeVeau; by two great-grandchildren, Lillian Madison Burns and Kaydence DeVeau; by two step-grandchildren, Amy and Debra; and by two step-great-grandchildren, Eric and Kira.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Dale Lawrence and by one sister, Carolyn Lawrence.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, September 9, 2013 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Curtis McClard, Jr. officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.
