Bernice Cox

Bernice Cox

Bernice Cox, daughter of the late Claude Strickland and Blanche Liley Strickland was born on September 25, 1934 in Hartsville, Missouri and died on February 24, 2013 at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau at the age of 78.

Mrs. Cox was a resident of Dexter and a member of the Dexter Church of Christ, Southeast Health at Dexter Hospital Auxiliary, received the community service award for the State of Missouri in 2005, the first recipient of the Richland teacher of the year award where she taught in the district for twenty-three years, a volunteer for the area agency on aging, Elder’s volunteering for Elder’s community outreach and was the former president of the BPW.

On December 19, 1953 she was united in marriage to George Cox at Maryland Heights, Missouri.  Mr. Cox survives of their home in Dexter.

Besides her husband she is survived by one son, Jeffrey Cox of Dexter; by two daughters, Sherry Alsup of Clarksville, Tennessee and Kimberly Lawrence of St. Louis, Missouri; by two sisters, Janie Curry of St. Louis, Missouri and Lucille Duckworth of Albany, Georgia and by seven grandchildren, Jeremy Cox, Jared Cox, Rory Cox, Kara Alsup, Matthew Alsup, Hannah Lawrence and Collin Lawrence.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Doyle Strickland and by one sister, Marie Bakker.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, February 25, 2013 from 5:00P.M. until 8:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will then be conducted on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Clyde Jacques and Travis Quetermous officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Sean Robert Crow

Sean Robert Crow, son of Bob Crow of Dexter, Missouri and the late Karen Weaver Ritz, was born on July 30, 1978 in Charleston, Missouri, and passed away on February 20, 2013 in Advance, Missouri at the age of 34.

 

Sean was a heavy equipment operator, enjoyed riding his motorcycle, a graduate of Bernie High School and a former resident of Stoddard County.

 

In addition to his father, he is survived by one brother, Justin Wade Crow of Greenville, Missouri; by four sisters, Shannon Smith of Dexter, Stephanie Lynn Credille of Dexter, Amy Beth Rose of Crystal River, Florida and Jenny Lynn Crow of Greenville, Missouri; by his paternal grandfather, Robert Crow of Dexter; by his maternal grandmother, Maxine Pope of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and by his maternal grandfather, Gaylon Weaver, of Kennett, Missouri.

 

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, February 24, 2013, from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. 

 

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at 2:00 P.M., in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Tim Russell officiating.

Flossie Abbott

Flossie Abbott, daughter of the late James Loyd and Ines DeJournett Byrd, was born in Parma, Missouri on March 30, 1923, and passed away at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on February 19, 2013, at the age of 89 years.

She had lived in Grayridge and Advance before moving to Salcedo in 1974. She had was of the Baptist faith.

On January 23, 1939, she was married to Emery L. Abbott in Grayridge, Missouri. He preceded her in death on Febrary 1, 2008.

Surviving are two daughters & spouse, Linda & Richard Bess of Cape Girardeau, Barbara Day of Carthage, Missouri; two sons, Larry Abbott of Sikeston, Eugene Abbott of Morehouse; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, other family and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by three children, Phyllis Ann Abbott, Fay Sue Abbott and Harry Lee Abbott; three grandchildren, Deana Bell, Tracy Abbott & Marty Abbott; four sisters, Naomi, Viola, Elevyn & Fay; and two brothers.

Visitation will be held on Thursday February 21, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Friday February 22, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with Mike Abbott of Rolla, Missouri officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Dulcia Buchanan Law, daughter of the late Lihue and Ida Ross Shull, was born in Puxico, Missouri on September 19, 1917, and passed away at the Clearview Nursing Home in Sikeston, Missouri on February 19, 2013, at the age of 95 years and 5 months.

She lived in the Puxico and Sikeston areas, was a home maker, wife and mother. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Puxico and was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Sikeston.

On February 22, 1936, she was married to Elbert Thell Buchanan in Puxico. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1977. She later married David Law in Bernie and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Phyllis Buchanan Ryan of Morehouse, Missouri; one son & spouse, Terry & Carol Buchanan of Puxico, Missouri; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Other family and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Faye Byrum, Nell Huff, Peggy Scott, Margie Hickman and Rita Chaney.

Visitation will be held on Friday February 22, 2013, after 11:00 AM at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Friday February 22, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Puxico, Missouri with the Rev. Joe McCollum pastor of the Fellowship Baptist Chruch in Sikeston, Missouri officiating.

Martha Ann Landers

Martha Ann Landers, daughter of the late Walter and Thelma Bishop Landers, was born in Dexter, Missouri on April 18, 1937, and passed away at her home in Dexter, Missouri on February 11, 2013, at the age of 75 years.

She had lived all of her life in Dexter and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter. For the last number of years, Martha Ann has resided at the Stoddard ARC Group Home on Walnut. She enjoyed her life under their wonderful care especially the dances held for the residents.

The family is eternally grateful for her loving care by the staff. Martha Ann never met a stranger and was known for her friendliness and her sweet temperament. One cousin spoke of her at the epitome of a loving soul. She came from a loving family, surrounded by a nurturing community, and Martha Ann reflected their love back to everyone she knew.

Surviving are a sister, Shirley Thompson of Milstadt, Illinois; her brothers, Allen Landers of Koscinsko, Mississippi and Burnell (Tony) Landers, M.D. of Independence, Missouri, their families, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Other family and friends also survive. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers, Norman, Clayborn E., Wilburn O., James R., and John Frank Landers.

Visitations may be made on Monday, February 18, 2013, after 10:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. James Landers of Liberty, Missouri officiating.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Charleston, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
