Bloomfield, Missouri - The Richland Rebels were no match for the Kennett Indians in the opening game of the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament.
Nine of the eleven Indian players listed on the Kennett roster made baskets. Six Indian players were in double digit numbers. The offensive weapons of the Kennett Indians just outscored the Rebels by double digits in three of the four quarters.
With a win over the Rebels, the Kennett Indians advance to the quarterfinals for a fourth straight season. Congratulations to the Kennett High School athletics. “It is good we were able to spread it out a little bit,” Kennett coach Jim Vaughan said. “We scored quite a lot off of transition and defense. To win this type of tournament you have to have different guys step up.”
The Kennett Indians were 15 of 24 from the free-throw-line and Richland shot 7 of 11 at the free-throw-line. Kennett went on to score 36 total 2-pointers, but neither team recorded any 3-pointers in the game.
Vaughan stated, “We gave up two baskets right away to start the second quarter. We provided a lot more defensive energy after that and held their offense down the rest of the half.” Kennett led the game 23 – 14 with over six minutes remaining in the first half before a 22-0 run pushed the lead to 45-14.
Kevonte Mitchell rallied a team high of 23 points for Kennett with Harold Weeden adding 13 more. Akeem Nelson, Antonio Primer, Antavies Drake and Cameron Harper also scored 10 points each.
Kennett (6-3) will play its quarterfinal contest Friday at 4 pm against #9 Bloomfield.

Bloomfield, Missouri – The Bernie Mules improved their record to 9-0 Thursday at the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament defeating East Prairie.
Bernie dominated the first three quarter in double-digit numbers. At the end of the first quarter Bernie was leading by a score of 20 to 17 and that was the closest the Eagles were able to get. The Mules completely dominated the game.
David Baker has an awesome day with scoring 24 points for the Mules. Bubby Schwent scored 14 and B.J. Jennings scored 12 for the game. Both Troy Kirkpatrick and Jake Wagner scored 3-pointers during the game.
Congratulations to the Bernie Mules as they play #7 Portageville Friday, December 28th at 8:30 pm.

Bloomfield, Missouri – The thirteenth seeded Puxico Indians could not outlast the fourth seeded South Pemiscot Bulldogs in a back and forth contest at the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament Thursday afternoon.
Puxico lead the game 32 – 25 at the halftime before the Bulldogs rallied back and made 28 points in the third quarter to take the lead. “We really focused on rebounding in the third quarter,” South Pemiscot coach Aaron Bidewell explained. “We were killed on the glass to the point it was almost embarrassing. I don’t know if it is a new gym or coming off of the Christmas break, but it was not our best first-half showing of the year.”
Zach Tucker led the Indians with 17 points. He scored nine of those points in the fourth quarter. Tim Hancock scored 11 points for the Indians. Puxico was able to narrow the lead to 60-58 with only three minutes left in regulation, but the Indians were not able to a win. Bidewell said, “They are not a bad basketball team at all. They only lost to Twin Rivers by single digits and they are one of the top team.”
The Bulldogs’ Jacob Trammel hit three of his five 3-pointers. He finished the game with 17 points along with teammate Anton Wilbourn who scored eight of his ten points after halftime. Seth Harris made 21 of his team-high 28 points in the second half.
South Pemiscot (9-3) will play in the quarterfinals Friday at 5:30 pm against 4th seeded Twin Rivers.

The scheduled times will remain the same at this point and the tournament will open on Thursday at 10:00 AM with the number one seed Kennett Indians taking on the Richland Rebels. Bernie will square off against East Prairie at 11:15 AM, Hayti versus Saxony Lutheran at 12:30 PM, South Pemiscot against Puxico at 2:00 PM and Twin Rivers will play Dexter at 3:30 PM.
The evening games will begin at 5:00 PM with Holcomb against Van Buren, Portageville will take on Doniphan at 6:30 PM and Malden will play the host team Bloomfield at 8:00 PM.
